About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and reliable Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team.

The successful candidate will provide essential secretarial and administrative support to the GPs and wider clinical team, ensuring that correspondence, referrals and other administrative tasks are completed accurately, efficiently and within appropriate timescales.

Key responsibilities

The role will include:

  • Providing efficient secretarial and administrative support to the GPs and clinical team.
  • Completing accurate audio transcriptions of GP and clinician dictations, including letters, reports and other clinical correspondence.
  • Preparing, typing and sending GP letters and other clinical correspondence.
  • Processing and managing hospital and consultant correspondence.
  • Preparing and sending referrals to secondary care and other healthcare services.
  • Monitoring and managing referral and appointment information.
  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Communicating with patients, hospitals, consultants and other healthcare professionals when required.
  • Updating and maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Processing medical reports and other administrative requests.
  • Supporting the practice with general administrative duties.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring compliance with GDPR and practice policies.
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure patients receive a safe, efficient and high-quality service.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Accurate and confident when audio transcribing medical information.
  • Able to type efficiently and accurately.
  • Able to prioritise and manage a busy workload.
  • Confident using computer systems and able to learn new systems quickly.
  • An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Professional, approachable and compassionate.
  • Able to work independently while also being a strong team player.
  • Reliable, flexible and able to work calmly under pressure.
  • Committed to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Previous experience working within a GP practice, NHS or healthcare environment would be advantageous, particularly experience of medical secretarial work, referrals and audio transcription.

Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
