Medical Receptionist (EMIS Trained)

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Medical Receptionist to join a busy GP practice in Telford. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous administration experience who is EMIS trained and confident working in a fast-paced environment.

As a Medical Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing a professional, friendly and compassionate service while accurately managing patient information using EMIS. Previous experience within a GP surgery or medical practice is essential. Similar NHS roles commonly require confident use of EMIS alongside excellent telephone and customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer a high volume of incoming calls in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Work as a Medical Receptionist, ensuring patients receive the appropriate advice, support or appointment.
  • Accurately update and maintain patient records using EMIS.
  • Book, amend and cancel appointments on EMIS.
  • Collect and verify patient demographic information, ensuring records remain accurate.
  • Signpost patients to the most appropriate healthcare service following practice protocols.
  • Deal with patient enquiries with empathy, professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Remain calm and courteous when handling difficult or sensitive calls.
  • Liaise with clinicians and colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
  • Maintain excellent patient care while working in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Experience Required

  • Essential: EMIS trained with recent practical experience using the system.
  • Strong customer service and telephone communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
  • Professional, compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR and safeguarding within a healthcare setting.
  • Immediate availability is highly desirable.
