Full job description

This post is Fixed term / Secondment for 12 months until 31/05/2027 due to funding

If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking to appoint two Knowledge Services Assistants to help keep the heartbeat of clinical information flowing. One will be based in Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest and the other in Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

In this fast‑paced support role, you’ll organise print and digital resources, keep systems running smoothly, and help busy healthcare staff quickly find the information they need.

You’ll be the friendly, reliable go‑to for day‑to‑day enquiries and well‑curated knowledge support.

If you’re organised, curious, and motivated by helping clinical teams access the right information at the right time, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact.

In this role, you’ll help keep our Library & Knowledge Service running smoothly by managing day‑to‑day tasks and providing an efficient enquiry service for both on‑site and remote users. You’ll support access to a wide range of resources, handling loans, returns, renewals and inter‑library requests, while making sure everything follows copyright guidelines.

Part of your role will involve maintaining accurate borrower records, registering new members, and keeping the library space tidy, welcoming and well‑stocked. You’ll assist users by photocopying, scanning and supplying documents, and offer one‑to‑one support to help staff find and use evidence‑based information.

You’ll also play a key part in promoting resources through inductions, displays and activities, while building positive relationships with colleagues and partner libraries across Wales and the wider UK. Alongside this, you’ll help keep equipment in good working order, manage supplies, collect usage data and feedback, and support basic information searches and IT queries. Working within Library & Knowledge Services policies, you’ll contribute ideas to continually improve the quality and accessibility of the service.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 99 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

You will be able to find a full job description and person specification attached within the supporting documents.

The Health Board is committed to supporting its staff to fully embrace the need for bilingualism thereby enhancing patient and service user experiences. In our commitment to increase the number of staff who are able to communicate in Welsh with patients and professionals, we welcome applications from Welsh speakers.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post. If you do not meet the Welsh Language requirements specified, the Health Board offers a variety of learning options and staff support to help you meet these minimal desirable requirements during the course of your employment with us.

Interviews will be held on 26/06/2026.
