Make Your Clinical Expertise Count Beyond the Bedside

UKIM is seeking a meticulous, clinically experienced Medical Records Nurse Assessor (MRNA) to join our Team in Houghton le Spring. This is a non patient-facing, office based role that plays a critical part in the early assessment of potential clinical negligence claims.

The Role

Working closely with Case Handlers, you will conduct comprehensive reviews of medical records to:

  • Identify key clinical events
  • Highlight missing or inconsistent information
  • Assess the potential strength of a clinical negligence claim

You’ll provide well reasoned clinical views supported by evidence, helping shape next step decisions and ensuring records are fully prepared for chronology and pagination.
You’ll also engage regularly with internal colleagues and external clients, supporting UKIM’s commitment to delivering a high quality, reliable service that consistently exceeds expectations.

As part of UKIM’s “One Team” culture, there may be opportunities to support:

  • Clinical checks within the Medico Legal team
  • The Occupational Health team, as required

Key Responsibilities

  • Review medical records and produce clear clinical assessments and summaries
  • Provide clinical opinions on potential breaches of care, supported by evidence and recommendations for expert review
  • Identify missing or unclear medical documentation and liaise with clients to clarify instructions
  • Prepare records for chronology and pagination, summarising key clinical events and details
  • Manage patient cases in line with Pagin8 service standards, ensuring timely progression and proactive communication
  • Provide professional clinical support to colleagues and respond to internal and external enquiries
  • Take ownership of work quality and flag training or development needs where appropriate
  • Conduct clinical quality checks on medico legal reports and provide constructive feedback
  • Undertake additional clinical duties as directed by the Operations Manager

About You

Knowledge & Experience

  • NMC registered RGN (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years post registration experience
  • Strong understanding of medical and nursing quality standards
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • GCSE English (or equivalent) at Grade C or above
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Proclaim
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health practice is advantageous but not essential
