About Us

Rapid Response Ambulance Service is a dynamic and rapidly growing CQC-registered healthcare provider, delivering professional ambulance, patient transfer and event medical services across the UK.

As our services continue to expand, we are looking for Registered Nurses to join our growing clinical team and work across a varied range of operational environments.

Through our National Transfer Service (NTS), we provide dedicated patient transfers across the UK, supporting patients travelling between hospitals and healthcare settings, including longer-distance and specialist transfers. This provides nurses with the opportunity to work closely with patients throughout their journey, providing continuity of care in a mobile clinical environment.

Alongside our patient transfer services, RRAS provides event medical provision at events across the UK. This offers opportunities to work in a completely different clinical environment, supporting the medical response at a diverse range of events alongside experienced ambulance and healthcare professionals.

Rapid Response Ambulance Services (RRAS) is looking for Registered Nurses to join our growing clinical team, providing safe, compassionate and professional care to patients travelling by ambulance across the UK.

This is an opportunity for nurses who enjoy working independently, adapting to different clinical environments and providing high-quality care throughout the patient journey.

The Role

As a Registered Nurse working within our ambulance service, you will provide clinical support and care to patients undertaking planned and specialist ambulance transfers.

Our work includes hospital-to-hospital transfers, repatriations, long-distance patient transfers and other planned patient movements where a registered nurse is required to support the patient's clinical needs during transportation.

You will work as part of an ambulance crew and will be responsible for maintaining the patient's safety, dignity and wellbeing throughout the journey.

Depending on the assignment, this may include:

• Completing appropriate patient assessments and clinical observations.
• Monitoring patients throughout the journey.
• Providing ongoing nursing care during transfer.
• Supporting patients with complex or continuing-care needs.
• Administering medication where appropriately authorised and within RRAS policy and your scope of practice.
• Recognising and responding appropriately to changes in a patient's condition.
• Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical documentation.
• Communicating effectively with patients, relatives, carers and healthcare professionals.
• Completing appropriate clinical handovers at the receiving location.
• Working collaboratively with ambulance clinicians and other members of the RRAS team.
• Maintaining patient dignity, privacy, confidentiality and choice throughout the transfer.
• Working in accordance with RRAS policies, procedures and clinical governance arrangements.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for Registered Nurses who are confident, compassionate and adaptable, and who enjoy working in different clinical environments.

You will need to be:

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and maintain current registration.
• Experienced in providing direct patient care.
• Confident undertaking clinical assessment, monitoring and ongoing patient care.
• Able to recognise changes in a patient's condition and respond appropriately within your scope of practice.
• Comfortable working independently while recognising when to seek advice or additional clinical support.
• Calm and professional when working in unfamiliar or changing environments.
• Compassionate and committed to maintaining patient dignity, privacy and comfort.
• Confident communicating with patients, relatives, carers and other healthcare professionals.
• Comfortable working as part of an ambulance, clinical or multidisciplinary team.
• Committed to accurate clinical documentation, effective handover and good clinical governance.
• Able to adapt to both patient transfer and event medical environments.

Experience in acute care, emergency care, critical care, urgent and emergency care, community nursing, medical or surgical nursing, discharge and transfer services, or other relevant clinical environments would be welcomed.

Previous ambulance experience is advantageous but not essential. We are interested in nurses who can demonstrate sound clinical judgement, appropriate experience and the ability to provide safe and compassionate care in a mobile and sometimes unfamiliar environment.

Most importantly, we are looking for nurses who are professional, dependable and genuinely care about the experience of the patient.

The Working Environment

Working with RRAS offers nurses the opportunity to work across a variety of clinical environments rather than being based in a single ward or department.

As part of our National Transfer Service, you may provide care to patients throughout journeys across the UK. Some transfers may be relatively straightforward, while others may involve patients requiring ongoing monitoring, nursing care or support throughout a longer journey. You may spend several hours with the same patient, providing continuity of care from collection through to handover.

Our event medical services provide a very different working environment. You may work as part of an event medical team at venues and events across the UK, providing clinical assessment and treatment within a planned medical response structure. Events can vary considerably in size, setting and clinical requirements.

Both areas of work require nurses who are adaptable, professional and comfortable working outside of the traditional hospital environment. You will need to be confident working as part of a team while also being able to exercise appropriate clinical judgement and recognise when further support or escalation is required.

No two shifts are necessarily the same. You could find yourself supporting a patient on a long-distance transfer one day and working as part of an event medical team the next.

Event Medical Provision

When working within our event medical services, you may be required to:

• Undertake clinical assessment and initial management of patients attending the event medical facility or requiring clinical assistance.
• Provide appropriate nursing care within your scope of practice.
• Monitor patients and recognise when escalation or onward referral is required.
• Work as part of the wider event medical and ambulance team.
• Support the safe management and clinical documentation of patients attending the event medical service.
• Liaise with ambulance services, NHS services and other healthcare providers where onward assessment, treatment or transport is required.
• Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality throughout the episode of care.
• Work in accordance with the event medical plan, RRAS policies, clinical governance arrangements and your professional responsibilities.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold current NMC registration.
• Have appropriate clinical experience for the role.
• Be able to demonstrate safe, professional and compassionate clinical practice.
• Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider clinical team.
• Be willing to complete RRAS induction, mandatory training and any role-specific training required.
• Be able to work flexibly in accordance with operational requirements.
• Meet RRAS employment, safeguarding and pre-employment requirements.
• Work within their professional scope of practice and comply with RRAS clinical governance arrangements.
• A valid UK driving license with no more than 6 penalty points.
• A flexible approach to working hours, with the ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• A valid DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
• Proof of all training and checkable 3-year work history.

Rapid Response Ltd, trading as Rapid Response Ambulance Service, is a CQC-registered healthcare provider delivering ambulance, patient transfer and event medical services across the UK.

This opportunity is offered on a Zero- Hours/self-employed basis, with individual assignments offered according to operational requirements and service demand. Each assignment is separate and does not guarantee future work, permanent placement or continuous engagement.

All successful applicants are required to complete RRAS's pre-employment and compliance checks before undertaking any work. These may include:

• Verification of professional registration and qualifications.
• Identity and right-to-work checks.
• DBS and safeguarding checks appropriate to the role.
• Verification of relevant training and competencies.
• Employment and/or professional history checks.
• References and other pre-engagement checks required by RRAS, its clients or the nature of the assignment.
