About the University
Psychiatry is part of the Faculty of Medicine and is established within one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities and a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group. The University of Southampton is an institution in the top one per cent of world universities and one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive Universities (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/). We have an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities.
The Applied Dementia Research Group at the University of Southampton is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Fellow to work on the Road Safety Trust–funded INDICATE project. This exciting project examines how online cognitive changes relate to driving safety in people with Mild Cognitive Impairment and dementia. Working collaboratively with NHS sites, the post offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful research with the potential to influence future driving policy and assessment practice.
The role
You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day delivery of the INDICATE study, working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Key responsibilities include supporting the design and delivery of online cognitive testing (training provided), coordinating participant scheduling and assessments, liaising with NHS partner sites, managing data collection and scoring, and contributing to statistical analysis and publication of findings. The role involves close collaboration with clinicians, researchers, and external partners, as well as regular reporting on study progress.
About you
You will hold a relevant undergraduate degree, with research experience in a related field, and ideally be working towards or hold a postgraduate research qualification. You will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication abilities, and good IT skills. You should be able to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and contribute analytically to research outputs. An interest in dementia research, cognitive assessment, and applied health research is essential.
The Faculty of Medicine holds an Athena SWAN Silver Award demonstrating commitment to equal opportunities and gender balance in the workplace. For further information including key benefits designed to help maintain and support employees' well-being and work-life balance, please see our working with us website pages.
As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. With a generous holiday allowance as well as additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and students and open to a flexible working approach.
Apply by 11.59 pm UK time on the closing date. For assistance contact Recruitment on +44(0)2380 592750 or recruitment@soton.ac.uk quoting the job number.
