Immigration Advice Service is the UK's leading Immigration Service Provider. Each year, we help thousands of people and businesses with their immigration needs.

We are seeking an experienced and highly competent IAA Level 3 Immigration & Asylum Caseworker to join our team. This role is suited to a senior immigration professional with substantial experience across the full spectrum of UK immigration law, including private client immigration, business and corporate immigration, asylum, human rights, nationality and appeals.

The successful candidate will be capable of advising and representing clients on complex immigration matters, providing strategic guidance across multiple practice areas and delivering high-quality casework in accordance with IAA and Legal Quality Assurance standards.

This role requires a confident and knowledgeable practitioner who can act as a trusted point of contact for clients seeking advice on any aspect of UK immigration law.

**Please note: Applicants must hold both current IAA Level 3 and IAAS accreditation. Experience delivering training, mentoring or technical guidance within an immigration or legal setting is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice and representation across all areas of UK immigration law, including private, corporate, asylum, human rights and nationality matters.
  • Manage complex and high-value immigration cases from initial instruction through to conclusion.
  • Represent clients before immigration judges, in person or in writing as required, including preparation of cases.
  • Conduct detailed legal assessments and develop case strategies tailored to clients' circumstances.
  • Draft witness statements, skeleton arguments, representations and other complex legal documents and correspondence.
  • Advise employers on sponsor licence compliance, skilled worker sponsorship and other business immigration matters.
  • Preparation and management of applications to the Home Office.
  • Ensure all contact with the client and any other action taken in respect of cases is recorded on attendance notes and regularly updated on the database.
  • Prepare and manage asylum, human rights, protection and appeal cases, including representation where appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior caseworkers and advisers where required.
  • Liaise with immigration authorities, other agencies and groups as required.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for complex immigration enquiries and escalated matters.
  • Interview and advise clients on Immigration and Asylum law, procedure and practice.
  • Meet agreed casework, billing and performance targets as set by Management.
  • Provide guidance to clients on completion of documents.
  • Supervise support staff when they provide direct administrative and secretarial support.
  • Undertake outreach work as required by Management, including liaising with ethnic communities, delivering talks and presentations to groups, and visiting other groups and centres as appropriate. Work from various locations as reasonably required by management.
  • Keep up to date with developments in Immigration and Asylum law through ongoing legal research, professional training and continuous professional development activities.
  • Deliver internal and external training sessions on UK immigration and asylum law to colleagues, partner organisations and other stakeholders as required.
  • Support the development of training materials, legal updates and technical guidance for advisers and caseworkers.
  • Complete and maintain all records in connection with casework to meet IAA and IAS requirements, maintain accurate statistics, and ensure client files are updated using appropriate systems as required by Management.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Management.

Requirements:

  • LLB or Law related degree/diploma in law.
  • IAA Level 3 and IAAS accreditations are essential.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience providing immigration and asylum advice and representation.
  • Demonstrable experience handling a broad range of immigration matters, including private client, corporate, asylum, human rights and nationality cases.
  • Experience delivering training, mentoring, supervision or technical guidance within an immigration or legal environment.
  • Experience working to Legal Aid and/or recognised legal quality standards.
  • Experience preparing and managing appeals and complex immigration matters is highly desirable.
  • Strong advocacy, drafting and client management skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent knowledge of current UK immigration legislation, policy and procedure.
  • An understanding and sensitivity to other cultures and issues raised by Immigration/Asylum matters.
  • An understanding of the duty to the court and client.
  • Professional communication skills, both oral and written.

Working Conditions:

· The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m., with occasional extended hours during peak cycles.
