About the Company

A wholly owned subsidiary of a world leading manufacturer and provider of high quality ophthalmic diagnostic solutions.

We are looking for

The Clinical Application Specialist is responsible for project managing and delivering training to customers on the use of Heidelberg Engineering's ophthalmic imaging portfolio, with a particular focus on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) devices and associated software, across the South of England. They are required to present clinical information during in-person or virtual events for the purpose of educating customers, internal education for colleagues, and promoting the Heidelberg Engineering product portfolio.

Applicants must have hands-on experience with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) devices and a strong understanding of OCT imaging in clinical ophthalmology or optometry settings.

Your responsibilities

  • Deliver expert training on OCT imaging acquisition, interpretation, workflow optimisation, and clinical applications to ophthalmologists, optometrists, photographers, and clinical staff.
  • Provide clinical application training on-site and virtually to customers on the use of the Heidelberg Engineering (HE) product portfolio of medical devices.
  • Provide support to clinicians and operators and troubleshoot queries that come through the Helpdesk.
  • Territory management, including project managing training at customer sites.
  • Ensuring training records are completed and stored as per company SOPs.
  • Deliver formal presentations covering the clinical application of HE instruments.
  • Assist with and/or deliver remote training via webinar or virtual workshop.
  • Ensure the HE device the customer is using is functioning and being used according to specifications.
  • Assist in the creation of educational materials, including Powerpoint presentations.
  • Ensure an exceptional customer experience and liaise with the sales and support teams to facilitate smooth customer handover for training.
  • Provide clinical application support at trade shows and conferences.
  • Provide clinical application training internally to support the development of the wider HE team.
  • Support the sales team with clinical presentations and demonstrations.
  • Ensure daily work and attitude embodies Academy brand standards of knowledge, professionalism, integrity, creativity, and humility.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Your qualifications

  • BSc/BA degree optometry or equivalent science/technology/medical imaging experience essential.
  • Ophthalmic photography or equivalent experience in hospital eye department desirable.
  • MSc in clinical optometry or equivalent desirable.
  • Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) registered or similar equivalent certificates desirable.

Your profile

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience using, interpreting, training on, or supporting Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) devices within ophthalmology, optometry, or a hospital eye service environment.
  • Comprehensive clinical knowledge of ophthalmic instruments and diseases, and anatomy/physiology of the visual system essential.
  • High level of computer proficiency and demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft Office essential.
  • Confident written and verbal communicator, including being able to deliver training presentations face to face and virtually to large audiences.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, flexible, and able to work autonomously.
  • Based in the South of England and willing to do a significant amount of travelling, including frequent nights away from home, occasional international travel, and varied working hours.
  • Full driving licence essential.

Desirable

  • Experience with Heidelberg Engineering OCT platforms, including Spectralis OCT and multimodal retinal imaging systems.
  • Experience providing training or education desirable.
  • Project and territory management skills desirable.

We offer

Hours of Work
40 hours per week. Daily working hours will vary due to travel to the location of customers. Occasional weekend work may be required.

You will be field based in the South of England and also covering other regions in the event of absence and leave. Regular international travel is required.
