About the Role
Tile House Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive medical receptionist/care navigator to join our friendly and supportive team. This role is offered on a part-time basis of 24 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This will take the form of 4 x 6-hour shifts (a mix of 7:30am–1:30pm and 1:00pm–7:00pm).
This is a vital front-line role, central to ensuring our patients receive a positive experience and are supported to access the right services at the right time. As a medical receptionist/care navigator, you will be the first point of contact for patients, dealing with queries face-to-face, online and by telephone. The role is varied and goes beyond answering phones and booking appointments, playing an important part in supporting clinical staff and keeping practice systems running smoothly.
Key responsibilities:
- Greeting and directing patients in a professional and friendly manner
- Booking, cancelling and rearranging patient appointments
- Navigating patients to the most appropriate clinician
- Answering telephone calls promptly and efficiently
- Managing incoming emails in line with practice procedure
- Registering new patients
- Handing out letters, completed forms and specimen bottles
- Dealing with requests for information, problems and complaints appropriately
- Advising patients on practice procedures and services
- Assisting GPs and the wider clinical team with requests
- Referring patients to local domiciliary and support services
- Helping to ensure patient records are accurate and up to date
About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated team player who has customer service/patient experience, offers excellent communication skills, and has the following attributes:
- Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients and colleagues at all times.
- Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong IT and administration skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable but not essential.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
Full training will be provided on our clinical database.
