About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team. The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to our clinical team, ensuring the efficient processing of referrals, correspondence, and patient-related documentation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care through effective support services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Processing referrals to secondary care services in a timely manner.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing clinical correspondence.
  • Typing, formatting, and proofreading letters, reports, and medical documents.
  • Tracking and monitoring referrals to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Liaising with hospitals, community services, and external healthcare providers.
  • Handling patient enquiries relating to referrals and appointments.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with GDPR and NHS guidelines.
  • Supporting clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative tasks as required.
  • Managing workloads effectively to meet deadlines and service requirements.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous administrative or secretarial experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience working within a GP practice, NHS, or healthcare setting.
