Job Summary
We are seeking an organised, professional, and compassionate Medical Secretary to join our busy healthcare team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the service and delivering an excellent experience for patients and clinicians.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in a healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to clinicians and healthcare professionals.
  • Manage appointment bookings, diaries, and clinic schedules.
  • Prepare, format, and distribute clinical correspondence and reports.
  • Accurately type letters from dictation/audio recordings.
  • Handle incoming telephone calls, emails, and patient enquiries professionally.
  • Maintain patient records and ensure all information is updated accurately.
  • Liaise with patients, hospitals, GP practices, and external healthcare providers.
  • Process referrals, test results, and other clinical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, confidentiality, and information governance requirements.
  • Support the wider administrative team as required.


Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in a medical secretary, healthcare administrator, or similar role.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Accurate typing and data entry abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection requirements.


Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working within the NHS, GP practice, private healthcare, or a hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience using clinical systems such as SystmOne, EMIS, or similar.
  • Audio typing experience.
