Full job description

We are seeking a reliable and organised individual to join our busy, friendly Specialist Orthodontic practice as a Dental Receptionist / Decontamination Assistant. This dual role involves providing excellent front-of-house service to patients while ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, sterilisation, and infection control within the practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Reception Duties:

  • Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Manage appointment bookings and cancellations
  • Answer phone calls and respond to patient enquiries
  • Maintain accurate patient records using dental software systems
  • Handle payments and receipts
  • Liaise with clinicians regarding scheduling and patient needs
  • Ensure the reception area is clean and welcoming

Decontamination Duties:

  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilise dental instruments following HTM 01-05 guidelines
  • Operate and maintain decontamination equipment (e.g., autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners)
  • Maintain accurate sterilisation and decontamination records
  • Ensure all clinical areas meet infection control standards
  • Dispose of clinical waste safely and correctly
  • Stock and organise clinical materials and supplies

Skills & Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a dental or healthcare setting (preferred but not essential)
  • Knowledge of infection control and cross-contamination procedures (preferred but not essential as full training will be given)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
  • Basic IT skills (experience with dental software is an advantage)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • High attention to detail and hygiene standards
