Job Details
Job Title: Patient Communicator - full and part time roles available.
Responsible to: Reception Team Manager and Operations Managers

Closing Date for Applications: 22nd June 2026

Job Purpose

To provide a focal point of contact and to communicate between patients, all members of the practice team and outside agencies in a busy practice, whilst actively contributing to the achievement of practice objectives and ensuring relevant Care Quality Commission standards are maintained.

Dimensions

The Patient Communicators are at the heart of the Practice and the main port of call for all departments. Each member is expected to work as part of the wider Practice Team, to contribute and participate in the continuing high standards of the Surgery with the added ability to manage individual projects. The Patient Communication Team are responsible to the Reception Team Leader and should report any work-related problems or queries to them.

Main Tasks/Duties and Areas of Responsibility

· Utilise the clinical system to ensure efficiency of the appointment system and monitor the flow of patients into the consulting and treatment rooms

· Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to patients, ensuring procedures are followed and completed

· Accept payments and issue receipts

· Deal appropriately with messages both verbal and written from all patients, staff, and other organisations

· Occasional opening of the premises and locking up, including activation and deactivation of the alarm system

· Offer accessible and appropriate healthcare to patients

· Monitor effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations required

· Liaise with other organisations for information sharing and/or obtaining further information

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date patients’ records, recording data consistently and according to protocols

· A willingness to develop and expand core knowledge on all aspects of IT through both in-house and external training

· Adhere to GDPR at all times

Any other responsibilities/attributes considered appropriate to the post

· Confidence in decision-making ability

· Ability to use own initiative

· Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills

Patient information is generally held under legal and ethical obligations of confidentiality. Information provided in confidence should not be used or disclosed in a form that might identify a patient without his or her consent. There are a number of important exceptions to this rule but it applies in most circumstances.

In order to protect patients, the law specifically permits Health Authorities to obtain relevant information about an applicant’s previous criminal convictions (if any) and a DBS check will be required. You are therefore asked to reveal all such convictions which you consider relevant to the applicant’s suitability for this post. Any such information will be treated in the strictest confidence

Hours of work

Our patient communications team are contracted to various hours per week and those hours are spread between 7.45am - 8pm, Monday to Friday. A regular shift pattern will be established with the successful applicant.

Weekends and Bank holidays:
There may be occasions when staff will be required to work weekends and/or Bank Holidays; these will be paid at an enhanced rate.

Qualifications

  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills
  • Administrative experience with a focus on organizational and clerical tasks
  • Typing skills with a high degree of accuracy
  • Previous office experience is a plus
  • Excellent people skills

Pay: £12.71 per hour
