Role Overview

Location: Greater London

Department: Fleet Operations

Pay: £110–£120 per day (£550–£660 per week)

Contract: Self-Employed

Hours: 60 hours per week / 10-hour shifts per day

Shifts: Monday–Saturday on a flexible rotational basis. Start times between 03:00–11:00 (Mon–Fri) and 03:00–00:00 (Saturdays)

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing business and make a real difference to the lives of our patients. As a carer with driving experience, you will work in a single crew to support patients with various mobility classifications, transporting them to and from non-emergency medical appointments across London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect patients from their home or medical site and transport them safely to the correct ward or destination.
  • Be friendly and engaging with patients who may be nervous about appointments or live an isolated life.
  • Follow PPE regulations at all times.
  • Ensure the comfort and safekeeping of all patients in your ambulance, driving in accordance with the Highway Code.
  • Take responsibility for patient wellbeing from the moment a booking is received until the patient is safely deposited at their destination.
  • Inspect and complete daily vehicle and equipment checks, and wipe down the vehicle after every patient.
  • Assist patients with mobility where needed, including the use of a wheelchair.
  • Treat all patients with dignity and respect, providing a quality and dignified service.
  • Report any safeguarding issues or incidents to the team.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Full UK Manual driving license held for a minimum of 2 years. (Essential)
  • No more than 3 live penalty points on your current driving license. (Essential)
  • No previous penalties for drink driving or insurance-related convictions, even if spent. (Essential)
  • A minimum of 1 year previous patient transport experience. (Essential)
  • Good communication skills with written and spoken English to an intermediate level. (Essential)
  • UK bank account. (Essential)
  • Right to work in the UK — unfortunately we do not sponsor. (Essential)
  • Enhanced DBS check (clear and in date). (Essential)

Desirable:

  • Experience from a patient-focused environment. (Desirable)
  • Good geographical knowledge of the London area. (Desirable)
  • Proven customer service experience or significant experience in a patient-facing role. (Desirable)
  • Previous experience working with individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is favourable. (Desirable)
