About The Role
Working Hours: 1 hour in the morning, 1 hour in the afternoon each week (Set times to correspond with school start and finish times). 10 hours a week, 38 weeks a year. Actual salary is paid as a pro rata amount.
Contract Type: Part time / Permanent

This role is subject to:
- Legal right to Work: In accordance with Home Office guidance, successful candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK before commencement of employment.
- 2 References - where possible we require 3 years' history.
- Proof of Manchester Residency – Roles at Grade 1 to 3, traineeships, or apprenticeships will initially only be advertised to Manchester residents and internal candidates. An applicant is classed as a resident of Manchester if they live within the boundaries of the City of Manchester; i.e. Any Council Tax liability for their home would be with Manchester City Council. - Medical Clearance - Pre-placement health assessment (PPHA)
- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders, and it is available upon request.

- Wendover Road/Sandilands Road (Sandilands Primary School, Baguley)
- Portway/Cornishway (Woodhouse Park, Wythenshawe)
- Pilkington Road (Charlestown Primary School, Moston)
- Poplar Grove (Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Gorton)
- Ashley Lane (Moston lane Primary School)
- Errwood Road (Alma Park Primary School, Levenshulme)

Are you available to work 8.00 am to 9.00 am and 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday during school term time (times may vary)? Manchester City Council is hiring "lollipop" people to help families safely cross the road on their way to and from school. It is a great way to stay active, meet local people, give back to your community and support Manchester's pledge to be a child friendly city.

About the Candidate
About the Role
We are looking for punctual, reliable, and community minded individuals to help children and families crossroads safely on their journey to and from school. In this important public safety role, you will support your local community and help children get to school safely.
About You

You should be able to demonstrate:

- The ability to work reliably and be punctual
- The ability to carry out the physical duties of the role, including standing for periods, working in all weather conditions and assisting children and adults to cross the road safely
- A basic knowledge of road safety
- A positive, respectful, and approachable manner towards drivers and pedestrians
- The ability to work on your own initiative with minimum supervision
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, families and road users in order to provide safety guidance.
- Availability to meet the working pattern of the role, including mornings and afternoons at specified times aligned to school start and finish times (term time only).
This is a safety-critical role requiring effective awareness of traffic and surroundings to ensure the safety of children and pedestrians. You will need to:

- Be able to safely observe traffic and pedestrians and respond appropriately to the surrounding environment
-
- Observe traffic and pedestrians effectively and take appropriate action to support safe crossing
-
- Have good vision and hearing, with or without aids
-
- Take appropriate action to stop traffic at a safe distance to allow pedestrians to cross safely
-
- Detect and appropriately respond to hazards.
- Remain alert and exercise sound judgment in busy road environments.
