Specialist Trauma Therapist – Full Time

Family Matters is seeking a qualified and experienced Specialist Trauma Therapist to join our therapeutic team supporting survivors of rape, sexual abuse and sexual violence.

This is a full-time employed role offering the opportunity to become an active part of our clinical team, delivering trauma-informed therapeutic support while also contributing to the wider development and day -to-day delivery of our services.

Role Details

Job title: Specialist Trauma Therapist

Reports to: Clinical Lead

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: £32,000 per annum

Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2028

Location: Hybrid – Family Matters HQ, Gravesend, remote working, and travel to other venues as required

Office days: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

Remote working: Tuesday and Friday

Start date: October

Normal working hours will usually be 9am–5pm.

To meet client needs, some flexibility may occasionally be required for appointments outside these hours, within an overall working window of 8am–8pm. Any variation would be planned with appropriate notice and working hours adjusted accordingly. For example, where an evening client appointment is required, the working day may start later.

The 8am–8pm window represents the range within which working hours may occasionally fall and does not mean employees are expected to work from 8am until 8pm.

Role Overview

The successful applicant will provide high-quality, trauma-informed and client-centred therapy to survivors of rape, sexual abuse and sexual violence.

Therapeutic sessions will be delivered face-to-face, remotely, and at other venues as needed, depending on client need and service requirements.

This is more than a sessional therapy role. As a full-time member of the Family Matters clinical team, you will work closely with our Clinical Leads and wider staff team and contribute to the effective running and ongoing development of our therapeutic services.

Alongside direct client work, you may support assessments, case discussions, safeguarding and risk management, waiting-list activity, clinical administration, outcome monitoring, development of therapeutic resources and wider service improvement activity.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, trauma-informed therapeutic support to survivors of rape, sexual abuse and sexual

violence.

• Provide both face-to-face and remote therapeutic sessions.
• Develop and maintain safe, appropriate and professional therapeutic relationships.
• Maintain accurate, timely and professional case notes and client records.
• Identify, assess and appropriately manage safeguarding and risk concerns.
• Undertake therapeutic assessments where required.
• Participate in case reviews and clinical discussions with Clinical Leads and colleagues.
• Contribute to waiting-list management and appropriate client contact.
• Support the collection and monitoring of client outcomes and service performance.
• Contribute to the development of therapeutic resources, workshops and other clinical materials where

appropriate.

• Support clinical audits, quality improvement and service development activity.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and relevant external agencies while maintaining appropriate

confidentiality and professional boundaries.

• Attend regular clinical supervision, team meetings and relevant training.
• Work in accordance with Family Matters' policies, procedures and clinical governance framework.
• Undertake other appropriate clinical and service-related duties that support the effective delivery of Family

Matters' services.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold a minimum Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Be a member of a recognised professional body such as BACP, UKCP or NCPS.
• Have experience providing therapeutic support to people affected by trauma.
• Have a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice.
• Be confident working with complex presentations and managing risk appropriately.
• Have a clear understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Be able to work independently while also contributing positively as part of a wider clinical team.
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Be able to maintain accurate and professional clinical records.
• Be able to work from Family Matters HQ in Gravesend on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
• Hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for travel to client venues as required.
• Have the right to work in the UK.
• Be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

Desirable

• Previous experience supporting survivors of rape, sexual abuse or other forms of sexual violence.
• Experience working with PTSD and complex trauma.
• Experience delivering both face-to-face and remote therapy.
• Experience undertaking therapeutic assessments.
• Experience working within a charity, voluntary sector or specialist support service.
