Job Title: School Attendance & Medical Officer
Location: Greenwich SE10
Salary: £15.00 - £18.00 per hour (Depending on experience)
Contract: Full-Time, Temporary/ Permanent
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm (1-hour lunch break)
Start Date: September 2026

About the Role

Complete Classroom Services is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and supportive school for an experienced School Attendance & Medical Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous school-based attendance and medical room experience who is passionate about supporting pupils' wellbeing, safeguarding, and attendance.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school's attendance procedures, overseeing the medical room, administering first aid, and providing a caring and professional service to pupils, parents, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Attendance

  • Monitor daily pupil attendance and punctuality.
  • Record and maintain accurate attendance records using the school's Management Information System (MIS).
  • Contact parents/carers regarding unexplained absences.
  • Follow up on persistent absence and lateness in line with school policies.
  • Produce attendance reports for senior leaders and external agencies.
  • Liaise with parents, staff, and external professionals regarding attendance concerns.
  • Support attendance meetings and interventions to improve pupil attendance.

Medical

  • Manage the school's medical room on a daily basis.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care to pupils and staff when required.
  • Administer prescribed medication in accordance with school policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of accidents, illnesses, medication, and medical incidents.
  • Ensure individual healthcare plans are kept up to date.
  • Liaise with parents regarding pupil illnesses and injuries.
  • Maintain medical supplies and first aid equipment.
  • Support the school in promoting pupil health and wellbeing.

General

  • Always maintain confidentiality.
  • Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and pastoral teams.
  • Provide administrative support relating to attendance and medical records.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR, and school policies.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • Essential
  • Previous experience working as an Attendance Officer, Medical Officer, or similar role within a school.
  • A current First Aid at Work or Paediatric First Aid qualification.
  • Experience managing attendance procedures and medical records.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using school MIS systems such as SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom, or Scholar Pack.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations.
  • Excellent record-keeping and attention to detail.
  • Attendance or safeguarding training.
  • Experience supporting pupils with medical conditions.
  • Knowledge of school attendance legislation and guidance.
