Are you an experienced First Aider looking for a rewarding role supporting young people?

We are currently recruiting for a Medical Officer to join a specialist school in North London. This is a fantastic opportunity for a caring, calm and organised individual who is passionate about supporting the health, wellbeing and safety of children and young people.

You will play a key role within the school, providing day-to-day medical support while working closely with teaching staff, parents, carers and external healthcare professionals.

About the Role

As the school's Medical Officer, you will be responsible for managing the medical needs of students and supporting the school in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing first aid and immediate medical assistance to students and staff.
Responding confidently and calmly to medical emergencies.
Supporting students with existing medical conditions and individual healthcare plans.
Administering medication in accordance with school policies and procedures.
Managing and maintaining accurate and confidential medical records.
Ensuring medication, first aid equipment and emergency supplies are appropriately stored and regularly checked.
Liaising with parents, carers, healthcare professionals and school staff regarding students' medical needs.
Supporting students with SEND and additional medical or wellbeing needs.
Promoting good health, wellbeing and positive relationships throughout the school.
Maintaining a safe, calm and supportive medical environment for students.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

Valid First Aid training/certification – essential.
EpiPen / Anaphylaxis training – essential.
Experience providing first aid or medical support.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations.
A caring, patient and compassionate approach to working with young people.
The ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
A commitment to promoting the welfare and safety of children.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

Previous experience working within a school, SEND setting, healthcare environment or children's service.
Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.
Knowledge of individual healthcare plans and medication procedures.
Experience supporting students with autism, ADHD, anxiety or other additional needs.
Additional relevant medical, healthcare or safeguarding qualifications.

Safeguarding & DBS

The successful candidate will be working directly with children and young people and must demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

The appointment will be subject to:

An Enhanced DBS check, including Children's Barred List checks where applicable.
Satisfactory employment and professional references.
Verification of identity, qualifications and right to work in the UK.
Appropriate safeguarding and pre-employment checks.
Verification of employment history, including satisfactory explanation of any gaps.

The successful candidate will also be expected to complete and maintain all required safeguarding, first aid and medical training and adhere to the school's policies and procedures.
