Summer Support Worker – HAF Programme
Camp Locations: Leytonstone, Barking & Dagenham, and Ilford
Responsible to: Personal Support Service Lead
Hours: Flexible shift patterns available (AM, PM, and full-day shifts)
Contract: Temporary – Summer School Holidays Only
About the Role:
The HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) Programme provides free holiday activities and nutritious meals for children and young people during the school holidays. The programme is fully funded for children who are eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals (FSM).
We will be running exciting summer camps across Leytonstone, Barking & Dagenham, and Ilford from the end of July and are looking for enthusiastic and committed Support Workers to join our team.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people by supporting them to access enjoyable, inclusive activities while building confidence, friendships, and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support children and young people to participate in a variety of activities, both individually and in group settings.
- Encourage confidence, independence, social interaction, and active participation in a safe and inclusive environment.
- Assist with the delivery and day-to-day running of the HAF programme.
- Build positive and supportive relationships with young people, adapting support to meet individual needs.
- Provide personal care and support with medication administration where required and appropriately trained.
- Prepare, set up, and clear away activity equipment, ensuring all areas remain clean, safe, and organised.
- Be aware of and respond appropriately to the medical, behavioural, emotional, and cultural needs of the young people you support.
- Escort children and young people to and from sessions when required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, students, and partner organisations.
- Support and mentor volunteers, escalating any concerns to senior staff when necessary.
- Attend all required training sessions, briefings, and team meetings.
Safeguarding and Compliance
You will be expected to:
- Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents promptly and appropriately.
- Comply with Health & Safety, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policies.
- Carry out all duties in a professional, respectful, and responsible manner.
Supporting Positive Outcomes
As part of the HAF team, you will help create opportunities for young people to:
- Develop existing interests and discover new skills.
- Build friendships and positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Express their views, make informed decisions, and take on new responsibilities.
- Contribute to the planning and development of activities and sessions.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience supporting and working with children and young people.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Availability throughout the summer holiday period.
- An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Successful applicants will be subject to a comprehensive safer recruitment process, including an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
