Hours: Part-time (hours negotiable)

Join Our Friendly and Supportive Practice Team

Tilehurst Village Surgery and Chancellor House Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and experienced Medical Summariser to join our busy and welcoming practice team.

We are a forward-thinking, patient-focused GP practice committed to delivering high-quality care to over [insert patient list size] patients. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous GP practice experience who enjoys working accurately and efficiently with patient records.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and summarising patients' medical records, ensuring key clinical information is accurately coded and entered onto the clinical system to support safe and effective patient care.

Working closely with our clinical and administrative teams, you will play an important role in maintaining high-quality electronic patient records.

Main Duties

  • Summarise and accurately code incoming patient medical records.
  • Review patient records and identify significant past medical history.
  • Enter relevant diagnoses, procedures, medications, allergies and immunisations using SNOMED coding.
  • Ensure patient records are complete, accurate and up to date.
  • Process deductions and registrations in line with practice procedures.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR requirements.
  • Liaise with clinicians where clarification of medical information is required.
  • Support wider administrative functions when required.

About You

Essential:

  • Previous experience working within a GP Practice.
  • Experience of medical summarising and clinical coding.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and data protection.

Desirable:

  • Experience using EMIS Web.
  • Knowledge of SNOMED CT coding.
  • Understanding of NHS General Practice processes.
  • Experience of document workflow management.
