Description

Part time, Permanent
Brilliant Art & Design teacher? You’d fit here.

At Wigan & Leigh College, you'll teach Art and Design across BTEC Levels 1, 2, and 3. This role is part-time so you can teach and continue with your own creative practice.
You'll cover a broad Art and Design curriculum, building students' technical skills, creative confidence, and understanding of what professional practice looks like. If you bring a specialism in Graphic Design, Textiles, or a related discipline, that would add something distinct to what we offer. But we're equally interested in educators committed to inclusive teaching with a deep understanding of creative arts.

What you'll do

  • Teach Art and Design across BTEC Levels 1, 2, and 3, covering technical skills and creative practice.
  • Plan and deliver lessons that develop practical ability and students' understanding of the creative industries.
  • Mark work, give clear feedback, and use assessment results to shape how you teach.
  • Keep assessed work verified and documented in line with awarding body requirements.
  • Act as a Personal Tutor, supporting students through their course and into their next steps.
  • Build connections with creative industry professionals to bring real-world experience into the curriculum.
  • Contribute to Open Evenings, department initiatives, and activities that promote Art and Design.

What you'll bring

  • A degree in Art and Design or a related discipline.
  • A teaching qualification.
  • Evidence of working effectively with creative arts students and making a positive difference to their development.
  • A specialism such as Graphic Design, Textiles, or a related area is welcome but not essential.
  • The ability to teach confidently across a range of Art and Design disciplines.
What you're like
  • Curious. You have an active interest in creative practice, your own and your students'.
  • Inclusive. You teach across different abilities and backgrounds and meet students where they are.
  • Connected. You seek out opportunities to bring the creative industries into the classroom.
  • Collaborative. You work well within a team and contribute to a shared creative culture.
  • Organised. You stay on top of marking, standards verification, and admin
Essentials
  • A degree in Art and Design or a related discipline.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • You'll need an enhanced DBS check, if you get the job, we'll do this for you.
  • You're committed to safeguarding and inclusion.
  • You can travel across our sites.
  • You're flexible and happy to work beyond standard hours when it's needed.

Why work with us?

Teaching at Wigan & Leigh College means being part of moments that can change everything. A student finding the confidence they didn't know they had. A subject opening up because someone explained it differently. A conversation that lands at the right time. We know Great People. Change Lives and you could be that person. You'll join an Art and Design department where creative practice, student voice, and real-world industry connection sit at the centre of our curriculum.
You'll have time to teach well and keep developing your own practice alongside it. You'll have colleagues who care about the creative industries and students who are building the foundations of a career in them. You'll see the impact when students leave with the skills, portfolio, and confidence to take their next step.
