Full job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Interventional Cardiology to work within the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
This permanent appointment will compliment the current team which consists of 23 Consultant Cardiologists who are dedicated to the delivery of tertiary cardiac services of the highest standard to a population of 1.3 million people. The Cardiology Department offers a full range of interventional cardiology procedures and this post is required to support, in particular, the acute coronary syndrome work stream and the primary PCI rota.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £114,099 per annum to £166,585 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Working alongside 6 interventional cardiology colleagues, you will be responsible for delivering approximately 1600 coronary interventions and 2500 diagnostic cardiac catheterisations annually. The full range of standard and advanced coronary interventional procedures are performed. The 3 catheter labs are equipped with pressure wire, orbital and rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithoplasty, OCT and intravascular ultrasound. There is an active primary PCI programme with more than 450 cases performed annually. We have a high-volume complex PCI and CTO service and have recently established a protected high-risk PCI program including impella.
The post holder will participate in a 1 in 9 on-call rota for acute interventional cardiology at UHW in addition to a 1 in 17 rota for acute general cardiology.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine will be expected.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest Integrated Health Boards in the UK, employing over 17,000 staff, providing over 100 specialist services. Working across 6 hospital sites, we have a diverse range of career opportunities to offer. Serving around 500,000 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, we are focussed on the health and care needs of our local population whilst working with our partners to develop regional services.
