The Role

The team

Dive headfirst into the Emmerdale drama! You'll work closely with the story team, script department, and production crew; a crucial link connecting the dots. Liaising with writers, editorial minds, and external contacts, you'll report to the Story Editor, providing them with fact-based research to support the exciting, drama-filled stories they’re looking to tell. From Story Conference to Shooting Scripts, you'll be at the forefront, instantly tackling research challenges to keep the narrative sizzling.

The role

You'll be the go-to for uncovering crucial research that fuels our gripping storylines, from initial concept to final script. Proactively spotting opportunities and providing clear and relevant research to Producers and Directors, you'll be key in ensuring every twist hits hard. Expect a fast-paced environment with long hours as you help bring the drama to life.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Proven Research experience in scripted television researching medical conditions, legal procedures, or social issues relevant to contemporary storylines is beneficial.
  • Experience working on a Continuing Drama or TV Drama and an understanding of Scripted TV Production processes.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using Google Suite, search engines and technology for accurate research
  • Demonstrated ability to meticulously fact-check information and ensure accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible approach to work and prepared to work irregular hours (if production requires).

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • A genuine passion for the genre of Continuing Drama and a keen interest in the storylines and characters of Emmerdale.
  • Industry knowledge and research skills.
  • Workload Management and Initiative- proven ability to effectively prioritise tasks, manage one's own workload independently, as well as proactively identifying and addressing research needs.
  • Adaptability and Delivery Under Pressure- demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, remain organised, and adapt flexibly to changing priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to contribute innovative ideas and perspectives to the research process.
  • Familiarity with UK broadcasting regulations (Ofcom), copyright law, and ethical considerations in storytelling (Training will be provided if needed)
