Trainee Occupational Health Advisor - Start Monday 14th September

Full Time Monday–Friday, Hybrid role, there will be a need for on site client visits agreed based on location - Scotland/Edinburgh

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (NMC PIN required) with an interest in Occupational Health to join our team at PAM Academy.

The programme is 8 weeks in total. It leads to permanent employment on successful passing your probation.

Full-time attendance is required during the first 8 weeks, as this is when you acquire the underlying knowledge to be able to carry out management referrals. During weeks 5-8, you start live consultations with your mentor’s support. Week 8-12, you will be consolidating your learning and building your caseload with the support of your manager and team.

The Role

This is a varied and rewarding role, going well beyond traditional absence management. You will gain experience across the full breadth of Occupational Health services, including:

  • Management of standard and complex absence management caseloads
  • Face‑to‑face case management, including functional assessments and return‑to‑work planning
  • Completing Occupational Health assessments
  • Undertaking Fit4Jobs medicals
  • Delivering immunisations and vaccinations
  • Supporting with and delivering health surveillance and specialist medicals
  • Delivering onsite wellbeing, education and health promotion sessions
  • Acting as a first point of contact for Occupational Health advice, supporting clients with workplace risk and health queries

This role offers an excellent balance of clinical practice, advisory work and professional development within a supportive and experienced OH team.

Working Pattern

Monday to Friday x40 hours per week, part time considered x24 hours per week minimum of x3 days. No annual leave during the first x8 weeks of the course

Travel to client sites for face to face management referrals

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

Registered General Nurse with a valid NMC PIN (no restrictions)

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

12–18 months of UK‑based nursing experience

Experience managing or supporting individuals with complex health conditions

Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills

Strong report writing and IT skills

Desirable:

Exposure to Occupational Health services

Experience in immunisations, health surveillance, OH assessments or case management
