Full job description

Registered Nurse – Functional Assessor (Hybrid: 2/3 Days WFH)

This role is strictly for qualified nurses who are registered with the NMC (RGN / RMN / RNLD). Our training does not replace the requirement for a recognised nursing qualification.

This position would suit Registered Nurses who prefer structured, steady work and value a consistent Monday–Friday pattern. The role is largely desk-based and involves focused assessment and report writing. It’s still hard work and requires concentration and clinical judgement — if you don’t want to spend all your time at a desk, this probably isn’t the right move.

But if you’re ready for a more balanced routine, this role offers predictable hours, rewarding work and the flexibility of 2/3 days per week at home. It’s a chance to use your clinical knowledge in a different way, without the pressures of hands-on care or a roulette shift pattern.

Whilst the role is professionally challenging, it is supported by comprehensive training designed to develop your clinical expertise and progress your career.

You'll learn to conduct 3 to 6 clinical assessments per day, including either:

  • Work Capability Assessments (WCA)
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

to produce evidence-based reports on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to help determine eligibility for benefits.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Conducting phone, video, or face-to-face assessments and produce detailed reports. These reports will directly impact benefit decisions, so they must be thorough, accurate and well-evidenced
  • Working independently to support vulnerable customers
  • You will be expected to work within defined performance targets and should be comfortable operating in a target-driven environment

What’s not involved:

  • No hands-on care
  • No nights, weekends or long shifts

What you’ll need:

  • NMC registration (RGN / RMN / RNLD)
  • At least 12 months post-registration experience in the UK. We cannot accept care/health assistants or paediatric nurses
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence writing reports using digital systems
  • You must have the right to work in the UK and speak fluent English. We cannot offer sponsorship

What you’ll get:

  • £39,500 salary + paid overtime
  • Monday-Friday, 9-5, hybrid working, with part-time options available
  • Up to 10% annual performance bonus, paid quarterly
  • £1,000 bonus for achieving accreditation within four months
  • Structured training programme to equip qualified nurses with the skills required for DWP assessments
  • 25 days’ annual leave (with the option to buy/sell days)
  • Ongoing CPD support and reimbursed revalidation fees
