Job description
Aries Medical Services Ltd T/A Health Connections is expanding our Patient Transport Services (PTS) provision from our Norfolk base. We’re looking for reliable, compassionate Bank Ambulance Care Assistants to support non-emergency patient transport, with an interest in also supporting secure mental health transport (training provided).

This is a flexible role for people who enjoy helping others and can deliver a calm, professional service to patients who may be vulnerable, anxious, frail, have reduced mobility, or experience mental health distress.

You’ll work as part of a crew (and where appropriate, may undertake lower-acuity journeys in line with service requirements and training) providing safe, dignified, door-to-door transport between homes, hospitals, clinics, care settings, and mental health facilities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide a safe, caring, door-to-door patient transport experience
  • Assist patients with mobility needs (walking aids, wheelchairs, and stretchers where applicable)
  • Support patients requiring secure mental health transport using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches (full training provided)
  • Communicate professionally with patients, relatives, ward staff, clinics, care homes, and colleagues
  • Carry out dynamic risk assessments (patient presentation, access, stairs, environment, safeguarding concerns)
  • Complete vehicle checks and maintain a clean, compliant vehicle (infection prevention standards)
  • Accurately record journey details, times, checks, incidents/near misses, and any concerns
  • Escalate any patient deterioration, access issues, safeguarding concerns, or operational risks to control/duty manager
  • Represent Aries Medical Services professionally at all times

Who we’re looking for

Essential

  • Caring, patient-focused approach with strong communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence (endorsements considered in line with company policy)
  • Comfortable supporting vulnerable patients with dignity and respect, including those experiencing mental health distress
  • Able to complete moving & handling tasks. (training and equipment provided)
  • Reliable and flexible to accept bank shifts (must be available weekends)
  • Able to complete basic paperwork / digital records accurately
  • Willing to undergo Enhanced DBS, provide references, and evidence right to work

Desirable (but not required)

  • Experience in PTS, care work, healthcare, ambulance services, or customer-facing roles
  • Experience or interest in mental health / secure transport / behavioural support
  • Moving & handling, safeguarding, infection prevention, conflict resolution training
  • Experience driving wheelchair accessible vehicles / larger vehicles
  • Local knowledge of Norfolk routes and multi-site working
