Nurse Assessor | Hybrid | Office Hours

£45,000 to £51,000 per year

Monday to Friday | No nights or weekends | Hybrid working

Location: Lewes, East Sussex

Are you a registered healthcare professional looking to move away from shift work, long hours or hands-on care into a more structured clinical role?

This role offers Monday-to-Friday office hours with hybrid working, no weekends and a predictable workload, while still allowing you to use your clinical skills and professional judgement.

You will complete functional assessments and produce evidence-based reports within a structured, non-acute environment. Comprehensive training and ongoing support are provided.

We are recruiting registered clinicians for PIP and WCA Functional Assessor opportunities based in Lewes. The location may also suit clinicians travelling from Brighton, Hove, Newhaven, Seaford, Ringmer, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and surrounding areas of East Sussex.

Interviews are taking place on a rolling basis for clinicians who meet the essential requirements.

Salary and bonus

  • £45,000 for PIP Assessor opportunities
  • £48,000 for WCA Assessor opportunities
  • Up to 10% annual performance-related bonus, paid quarterly and based on quality and productivity
  • £2,000 payment for PIP following successful completion of training
  • £1,000 payment for WCA following successful completion of training

The available assessment pathway will depend on the current vacancy, your professional background and operational requirements.

Eligible professions

This role is open to registered clinicians from the following professional backgrounds only:

  • Nurses: RGN, RMN or RNLD
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Paramedics
  • Pharmacists

Applicants must hold current NMC, HCPC or GPhC registration, depending on their profession.

This role is not suitable for Children’s Nurses, ODPs, Midwives or professions outside the list above.

Physiotherapists must have at least one year of UK clinical experience.

Location and working pattern

The position is based at the Lewes assessment centre.

You must be able to attend the assessment centre when required. Hybrid working involves a combination of office-based and remote working.

This is not a fully remote role.

The working pattern is:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Office hours only
  • No night shifts
  • No weekend working
  • No rotating shifts

The role

You will use your clinical expertise to assess how health conditions and disabilities affect an individual’s daily life or functional capability for work.

You will gather relevant information, review supporting medical evidence and produce clear, accurate and evidence-based reports.

Assessments are completed via:

  • Telephone
  • Video
  • Face-to-face appointments in a non-clinical setting

This role does not involve hands-on treatment, prescribing or making benefit eligibility decisions.

What you will do

  • Carry out structured functional assessments using clinical judgement
  • Review medical evidence and supporting documentation
  • Produce clear, accurate and evidence-based written reports
  • Use active listening to understand how health conditions affect daily life
  • Communicate complex information clearly and sensitively
  • Adapt your communication to individual claimant needs
  • Support individuals with empathy and professionalism
  • Work independently while meeting quality and productivity standards
  • Liaise with other healthcare professionals where required

What you will not do

  • Make diagnoses
  • Provide treatment or prescribe medication
  • Carry out hands-on clinical care
  • Work nights, weekends or rotating shifts
  • Make benefit eligibility decisions

What you will need

  • Current professional registration with the NMC, HCPC or GPhC
  • At least one year of post-registration clinical experience
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills
  • Confidence conducting detailed telephone and video conversations
  • The ability to explain clinical reasoning clearly
  • Confidence with report writing and structured work
  • Good IT skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and manage deadlines
  • The ability to attend the Lewes assessment centre when required
  • The right to work in the UK
