Are you an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist looking to broaden your professional portfolio?

We are seeking experienced clinicians to join our growing network of independent psychological experts, delivering assessments for medico-legal cases throughout the UK. This role is designed for professionals who want the flexibility to accept work as it becomes available, making it ideal alongside NHS, private practice, academic, or other clinical commitments.

About the Opportunity

As an independent expert, you will undertake psychological assessments for individuals involved in legal proceedings. Your role is to provide an impartial, evidence-based clinical opinion following a comprehensive assessment and review of the available records.

Most appointments are completed remotely, although occasional in-person assessments may be required at clinic locations close to your preferred working area.

Key Responsibilities

Your work may include:

• Conducting comprehensive psychological assessments with clients.
• Reviewing medical records and supporting documentation.
• Assessing psychological symptoms, diagnosis, and their impact on day-to-day functioning.
• Preparing clear clinical findings based on your professional judgement.
• Completing all required assessment documentation accurately.
• Reviewing and authorising the final medico-legal report before submission.

Candidate Profile

We're interested in hearing from Clinical Psychologists who possess:

• Current HCPC registration.
• Professional indemnity insurance.
• Active ICO registration.
• Strong assessment, analytical and written communication skills.
• Experience working with a broad range of mental health conditions, including trauma and PTSD.
• A thorough understanding of professional ethics and the role of an independent expert witness.

Previous medico-legal experience is welcomed but is not a prerequisite. Comprehensive guidance and ongoing support are available for clinicians who are new to this area of practice.

Flexible Working

This is a self-employed opportunity with complete flexibility over your workload. There are no contracted hours, allowing you to choose assignments that fit your availability.

Most assessments are carried out via secure video consultation. Where required, face-to-face appointments will typically be arranged within approximately 5–10 miles of your preferred postcode.

What We Provide

Our experienced operations team manages the administrative side of every instruction, including scheduling appointments, liaising with clients and solicitors, and coordinating documentation. This enables you to focus on delivering high-quality clinical assessments.

We also provide mentoring and practical guidance to help clinicians build confidence and expertise in medico-legal reporting.

Contract Type: Self-Employed / Independent Contractor

Hours: Flexible, part-time according to your availability

Pay: £100.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 1.0 per week
