Full job description
Ellipsis is emerging as a market leader in “GEO” for B2B technology companies. This is a high-impact, varied role in a fast-moving and ambitious agency.
The transition to AI search has put a lot of the SEO industry on the back foot. Ellipsis has always been consultative/strategic in our approach; we started building AI search products in 2021 on GPT-2, and thus this has been a time for us to thrive.
Today, we think we have a better understanding of AI search than almost anyone else. We have both the tracking product (built in-house), the data (~25 million AI answers for analysis, with more tracked weekly), and the execution end-to-end from strategy, to writing, to in-house design, to optimization, and performance reporting.
As the newest member of our in-house Writing team, you will craft outstanding content for our clients that uses – and feeds into – our latest AI search research. Content quality is extremely important to us! For the writer who can think strategically, learn quickly, and execute across a variety of subject matters (typically SaaS/tech), this is the dream role.
What you’ll doThe heart of this role is the content creation itself - taking a brief and working with a combination of your own skill and our cutting-edge AI tooling to turn it into a genuinely good piece of content. You’ll work on a varied mix of content for your assigned portfolio of clients, including (but not limited to) landing pages, informational content, comparison pieces, and listicles.
Every article we produce needs to win the trust of readers, capture the voice of the brand, and be built to perform in both AI Search (GEO) and legacy search. You don’t need to be an expert in GEO from day one, but you’ll need a genuine interest in how it works and the ability to learn quickly, because it shapes how we build every content piece.
Ellipsis uses AI in the writing process, and we produce a high volume of content. Ellipsis is also extremely anti-slop! Your job as a writer will be to use our custom AI tooling and craft high-quality and strategically impactful work that leverages Ellipsis’ very latest research on how AI search actually works. We are continually improving our processes and tooling, and you will be expected to feed back on what works (and what doesn’t) so we can get better faster.
To succeed in this role, you need to be comfortable with leveraging AI for the parts of the writing process it’s great at, then build on top of this. AI handles the groundwork; your judgment and skill is what lifts the output above what any tool produces on its own. You’ll still have plenty of room for craft and creativity - deciding what’s actually good is the part we can’t automate.
Communication, both with clients and the wider team, is also a core part of the role. You will be joining a small but growing team of four writers, and will work closely with our Content, Strategy, and Design teams. While you won’t own or manage client relationships directly, nor will you attend every check-in call, deeply understanding your clients’ products, audiences, and goals will be critical to creating effective content. You’ll need to be confident in gathering the information you need from clients and the internal team through onboarding calls, check-ins, and asynchronous communication.
Our customers are predominantly B2B technology companies. We work with a lot of startups and scale-ups; B2B tech has been our bread-and-butter although we are also having success with B2C and have some very high profile clients in this area. The range of topics you’ll work on will be wide, and you’ll thus need to be confident with context switching and picking up varying styles and requirements across different clients quickly.
As a 100% remote team, we carefully balance collaboration with an environment that enables everyone to do their best work. You’ll communicate with the team through Basecamp, our project management software, and Google Meet. The majority of the team is located in Europe, and you’ll be expected to regularly attend meetings between 10am–3pm GMT, with occasional calls outside these times.
Requirements
We’re looking for an experienced writer who can work well both independently and as part of a team. We’d expect at least 2-4 years of writing and editing experience. Excellent writing and grammar, and the discipline to fact-check every stat, price, and claim against primary sources are hard requirements.
You’ll need to be confident in getting up to speed fast on unfamiliar B2B and SaaS topics and turn them into compelling, user-friendly content. A working understanding of GEO would be an advantage, but what we’re really looking for is somebody with an eagerness to learn and the ability to do so quickly.
Strong critical thinking is a must-have at Ellipsis! You’ll need to be confident weighing sources, questioning a brief that doesn’t add up, and making sound editorial judgement calls without constant guidance. We are looking for writers who can spot gaps or friction within our current processes and systems, and help drive forward improvements.
The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate the following soft skills:
- Proven organisational skills: You must be obsessive with deadlines, managing and updating tasks, and totally reliable.
- Fantastic communication skills: Remote work relies on mutual trust, so frequent and clear written communication is essential.
- Receptive to feedback with no ego and solutions-oriented: You can take an edit or a critique, act on it, and get better. At Ellipsis, continuous improvement is more important than being right.
- High level of self-awareness, a “people person”: You’ll be dealing with members of the team on a daily basis, so this is an integral part of the role.
- Self-driven work ethic: You need to be self-motivated, comfortable taking the initiative, and see projects through to completion.
Benefits
- This is a full-time, 100% remote role. You’ll be a full team member, and involved in our team projects, work, and meetups.
- £31-33k/year salary, depending on experience, with pension benchmarked to UK rates.
- 28 days of paid holiday, with an additional 1 paid holiday day a year with each year of tenure, up to a maximum of 5 additional days.
- 4-day work week, once a month.
- Genuinely flexible working.
- Regular team retreats (~1 per year); last was Istanbul, previously in Edinburgh, Oxford, Madrid, and Budapest.
- Time and budget for learning and development.
- Enhanced maternity/paternity leave, and sick pay.
It’s important we find the best candidate for this position, and our selection process will reflect this. You’ll be required to attend at least three interviews (by video call) and carry out a (paid) freelance project with us before we make an employment offer.
Much of our company Wiki is externally accessible, and you’re encouraged to read through this before applying. We have a very useful guide to our interview process available here. This tells you what we’re looking for and reading this will significantly increase your chance of success!
Please apply through Workable: https://apply.workable.com/getellipsis. We will decide who progresses to the next stage based on the form you submit, your cover letter, and your CV. Please give us a good reason to select you! Taking the time to research the role, what we’re looking for, what we do, and what you can do for us will increase your chance of success. Your cover letter is where you have the space to do this.
Whilst we love technology and sit at the leading edge of its adoption (we automate hundreds of thousands of actions a month internally), we want to hear from you rather than from ChatGPT. That might sound odd given how much AI is in the work itself - so to be clear: we use AI heavily day to day, but your application is where we want to see how you think, in your own words.
The deadline for submission is the end of the day, on 30th September 2026. We’ll be in touch with all candidates following the close of applications.
We do great work for clients and are building an ethical business that lets everyone do their best work. If you think you could be the next person to join our team, please apply!
