In addition it is home to a specialist teaching facility; the Cruciform Teaching Facilities Unit. Some of the constituent parts of the Faculty have long and distinguished histories that can be traced back to the early 19th century when UCL was founded and we are proud to have nine Nobel Laureates associated with Life Sciences Research is integrated into many of our degrees giving students the opportunity to make an original contribution to their field of study. The Faculty builds on research strengths in cell and developmental biology, computational biology, evolutionary and population genetics, cellular and circuits neuroscience, and structural and molecular biology to improve lives and communities and create real world impact.

Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students.

The UCL Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology (LMCB), is an internationally renowned, multidisciplinary, molecular and cell biology department, located in the heart of UCL’s London Bloomsbury Campus. LMCB scientists explore the dynamic control of cells and their environment during development, physiology and disease using a range of model systems and advanced molecular and imaging technologies. Current research themes include cell signalling and decision making, tissue architecture, homeostasis and regeneration, cell-matrix interactions, RNA biology and the physics of living systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Lloyd Lab.

You will lead your own project while working in a collaborative and innovative team who are committed to excellence in research.

About the role

The Lloyd Lab, funded by CRUK, aims to understand the homeostasis and regeneration of the peripheral nervous system and the roles of these processes in cancer. To deliver this role effectively you will need a combination of excellent understanding of molecular, cell biology and imaging, with a special focus on peripheral nerve biology as well the ability to establish effective and collaborative relationships.

Interviews are scheduled to take place in late October/early November 2026.

This is a fixed-term, part-time (18.25 hours/week) role ending on 30/04/2027.

About you

The successful candidate will be part of a world-leading, collaborative research team studying peripheral nerve biology in health and disease.

The candidate should possess:

• Strong technical and organisational skills

• an extensive knowledge of research techniques and methodologies related to imaging

• Experience in mouse work including colony management and in vivo work

• experience in data analysis

• willingness to contribute to a supportive and collaborative environment among team members and to advocate for and promote an endeavour of equality, diversity, and inclusion among colleagues and other LMCB members.

Salary Range for Research Assistants on Grade 6B is: £39,148 - £41,833 (including London Allowance).
