Job Summary

Role: Creative Studio Assistant / Arts Administrator (Part-time )

Hours: 15 hours per week (Flexible schedule)

Pay: £14.00 per hour plus sales commission structure

About the Studio:

I am an established, award-winning muralist/ painter and spatial designer recently moved to Brighton after 15 years practicing in New York and Washington, DC. My practice focuses on large-scale canvas works, site-specific commercial murals, and corporate art installations. I am currently preparing for an upcoming Open Studio exhibition on Sunday, 30 November, alongside developing a commercial corporate outreach strategy.

The Role:

I am looking for a proactive assistant to handle the administrative and outward-facing side of the studio. This role is designed to split the "creative" from the "business," allowing you to act as the studio's coordinator. It is a fantastic opportunity for an arts management student, creative writing student, or recent graduate looking for hands-on experience in sales and the commercial art world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Campaign Management: Helping log incoming mailing addresses from our collector database and coordinating the packaging and postage of a limited-edition print run.
  • Exhibition Support: Assisting with the physical layout, labeling, and low-stress logistics for the Open Studio event on 30 November.
  • Corporate Research & Outreach: Researching local Brighton/Sussex property developers, interior architects, and co-working spaces, and sending out pre-drafted introductory portfolio pitches for mural commissions.
  • Inbox Organisation: Monitoring the studio email inbox and drafting polite, professional responses to client inquiries.

About You:

  • Superb written communication skills with a warm, professional, and grounded tone.
  • Highly organized with basic spreadsheet skills (Excel/Google Sheets).
  • Reliable, discrete, and comfortable working independently in a calm studio environment.
  • A background or strong interest in the visual arts, art history, or creative industries is a major plus.

Duties

  • Manage day-to-day administrative tasks including data entry, filing, and correspondence.
  • Coordinate studio bookings, schedules, and artist appointments efficiently.
  • Utilise Microsoft Office and Google Workspace to prepare reports, presentations, and communication materials.
  • Handle phone enquiries with professional etiquette, directing calls and taking messages as appropriate.
  • Assist with financial administration using QuickBooks, including invoicing and expense tracking.
  • Support event organisation by preparing materials, managing invitations, and liaising with participants.
  • Maintain accurate records of studio usage, memberships, and inventory levels.
  • Provide general clerical support such as photocopying, scanning, and organising files.
  • Facilitate effective communication between artists, staff, and external partners through email and other channels.
  • Contribute to maintaining a welcoming environment within the studio space.

Experience

  • Previous office or administrative experience is preferred but not essential as valuable training will be provided.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Calendar).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Good telephone etiquette with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Experience in the arts or working within creative environments is desirable but not mandatory.

This role offers an engaging environment for individuals passionate about arts administration who wish to develop their sales skills while supporting a dynamic creative community.
