Full job description

Max Communications Ltd

Job Title: Digitisation Officer

Fixed Term - Until end of September

Max Communications requires staff to join our highly respected digitisation team based at our Woolwich Head Office.

About our business:

Max Communications is a digitisation specialist with over 24 years of experience. We have an extensive and growing client list including some of the world's most prestigious galleries, museums and media organisations. Our proven expertise has led us to be a trusted name in the industry. As a Royal Warrant holder, we insist on the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, both in terms of our services and also our internal policies and procedures.

Digitisation is a vital process for organisations looking to preserve or widen access to their collections. We handle a variety of historically and culturally valuable items, including books, manuscripts, archival documents, maps, negatives and glass plates. Images are captured predominantly using DSLR cameras and processed to client specifications, then undergo thorough quality assurance checks before being delivered to the client.

We are also specialists in the digitisation of audiovisual material, ranging from tape-based formats such as Betacam, VHS and U-matic to audio reels and film. Our audiovisual expertise includes both capture and post-processing.

We place great emphasis on personal and professional development for all staff, including internal career progression opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to join a friendly, high-profile company in an environment where hard work and attention to detail are rewarded.

About the role:

This role is within the image capture team based at our Woolwich Head Office. Digitisation Officers are tasked with producing images of archival material - including bound volumes, loose-leaf documents and maps - using overhead DSLR cameras (full training will be provided). As much of the material is very fragile, manual dexterity and care when handling documents are highly important. Due to its repetitive nature, the role is best suited to candidates who are motivated by their interest in working with heritage material even when performing recurring tasks.

What do we expect from our staff?

  • Attention to detail
  • Handling client material with care
  • Working efficiently
  • Ability to maintain concentration when completing repetitive tasks
  • Following instructions and asking if unsure
  • Knowledge of digital photography and Adobe products (desirable but not essential)

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the material this position is subject to a DBS check.

Working hours: Monday to Friday 9-5pm, with a start time between 8am and 9.30am

Holiday: 28 days including bank holidays (8 days) (Pro rated against fixed term duration)

Birthday Leave: Day off for your birthday

Dress code: Smart casual (jeans and a t-shirt are acceptable; occasionally you may be asked to dress more smartly for certain events)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £12.72 per hour

Benefits:

  • On-site parking

Work Location: In person
