We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Music Substitute Teacher to join our substitute teacher pool and provide high-quality music education across our Lower school. This is an excellent opportunity for a music educator who enjoys working in a dynamic international school environment.

The Role

As a Music Substitute Teacher, you will:

• Deliver engaging, age-appropriate music lessons across Kindergarten to Grade 4, following lesson plans and curriculum guidance where provided.
• Use musical expertise, creativity and initiative to deliver meaningful learning when lesson plans or resources are unavailable, including taking over classes with little advance notice.
• Teach a range of musical activities, includingsinging, instrumental music, ensemble work, composition, improvisation, music theory, listening and performance.
• Create a positive, inclusive and engaging classroom environment where students feel confident participating, expressing themselves and developing their musical skills.
• Adapt and differentiate teaching to meet the varied needs, abilities and developmental stages of students, encouraging collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving.
• Maintain effective classroom management and ensure a safe, respectful and positive learning environment in accordance with School policies.
• Use and care for musical instruments, equipment and technology appropriately.
• Work collaboratively with the Music Department and wider School community to provide continuity and support student learning.
• Provide day-to-day cover and, where required, longer-term substitute teaching assignments, including maternity or extended leave cover.
• Communicate effectively with students of varying ages and backgrounds and, where appropriate, with parents, adapting communication to students' developmental needs.
• Use initiative to resolve problems and make decisions in the best interests of students.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold ASL’s safeguarding, wellbeing and professional standards.
• Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing circumstances at short notice.
• Contribute positively to the School community and culture, with a collaborative approach and a positive attitude.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking candidates who have:

• Previous experience teaching Music in a school environment.
• A relevant teaching qualification and/or degree or recognised qualification in Music or Music Education.
• Strong knowledge of music education and confidence teaching both practical and theoretical aspects of music.
• Excellent classroom management and the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with students.
• The ability to adapt lessons for different ages, abilities and learning needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A flexible and collaborative approach, with the ability to respond positively to short-notice assignments.
• Creativity, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for music and education.
• A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and student wellbeing.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process.
