Rocksteady Music School is the UK’s biggest employer of full-time, permanent musicians. We teach in-school rock and pop band lessons to primary age children. We’re a community of musicians and music-lovers, on a mission to remove barriers to music education so that no child gets left behind. We’re currently in thousands of schools in the UK, teaching over 100,000 children every week – and we’re growing fast. Join us as a band leader and your passion will inspire the next generation.
Our band leaders often come from diverse backgrounds so we know you might not currently be working in a music-related role or have any teaching experience. If you can bring the right combination of musical ability, passion for our purpose and enthusiasm for learning, then we can offer the training you need to succeed in this role.
As a Regional Band Leader you will:
  • Ensure a consistent experience to our customers by providing cover and catch up lessons in Rocksteady schools throughout the year.
  • Responsible for assessing the needs of children and schools, and providing high quality lessons in a wide variety of different situations.
  • Create and maintain on-going positive relationships with schools requiring cover and catch up lessons.
  • Be consistently on top of administrative duties outside of lessons.
  • Supporting new Band Leaders in your area when not providing cover and helping to maintain quality standards in your region.
  • Fuel card is provided for all business miles (as you will not have a regular place of work all of your mileage will be classed as business mileage).
As a Regional Band Leader you’ll need:
  • To be competent on at least two of the following instruments: drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
  • Be energised by travel and able to stay away from home as required.
  • Consistently and positively representing the brand in your schools.
  • Be consistently organised and have excellent administrative skills.
  • Be highly personable, approachable and friendly.
  • Have a confident and concise communication style.
  • Have a positive and can-do approach to their work.
  • Be resilient and adaptable.

UK/EU Driving Licence and own transport is an essential requirement for the role.
We appreciate that previous experience does not always tell the full story, so if you like the sound of this role, don’t rule yourself out if you feel you don’t tick all the boxes.
Benefits
  • Full-time, salaried position.
  • Work Monday – Friday, daytimes only.
  • Travel Premium payments for longer journeys and Fuel Card included.
  • 11+ weeks paid holiday per year.
  • Long service award: an additional 4 weeks’ pay after 5 years
  • Annual staff bonus.
  • Full training in our progressive teaching methodologies.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including discounts on everyday purchases and free 24/7 GP service.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Celebratory staff away-days, Christmas parties and social events.
  • Opportunities to work with the Rocksteady Foundation, reaching children and young people in charities and support groups across the UK.

Note: £31,500 pa is effective from 1st October 2026. If you start before this date, the starting salary will be at the current rate of £30,500 pa, until 1st October 2026, when the pay increase takes effect
