Job Description

WaterBear Education Ltd. is seeking to appoint a Programme Officer (BA) based in Brighton to join our Education team.

Job Purpose

  • To provide academic support, mentoring and guidance for all students on the BA programmes (whether on site or distance learning) in order to maintain high levels of student satisfaction and achievement.
  • To function as a first point of contact for all students on the BA programmes.
  • To organise and manage various student activities.
  • To assist the WaterBear Senior Management Team with administrative tasks as required.
  • To maintain accurate course-related records.
  • To collate course-related data and assemble regular reports.

Main Duties

  • Provision of day-to-day support and assistance for the Programme Manager (BA) and Senior Programme Manager (BA) with the running of the BA programmes.
  • Development and review of programme processes and procedures, to ensure effective programme administration.
  • Co-ordination (commission and creation) of digital course content for use on the VLE. This will include editing and uploading content as appropriate.
  • Provision of individual mentoring and academic support to students, including study skills and general education guidance. This may also include discipline-specific activity as appropriate.
  • Proactive monitoring of key student performance metrics (e.g. attendance), identifying and implementing appropriate interventions wherever necessary.
  • Collation of course-related data, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to managers.
  • Assisting in the implementation and execution of the mentoring programme, ensuring all students on the BA programmes gain access to appropriate mentors to support their programme and career objectives.
  • Supporting the Programme Manager and Senior Programme Manager to ensure all lectures, seminars and timetabled activities are appropriately staffed, facilitating any dep cover as necessary.
  • Co-ordination of assignment marking teams to ensure accurate and timely assignment feedback.
  • Responsibility for assembling work samples to be reviewed by the External Examiner, in line with Falmouth University guidance.
  • Assisting with general office-related tasks to support administrative processes as necessary.
  • Assisting with WaterBear events and activities as required.

Person Specification

  • At least two years’ experience within education administration.
  • Qualified to degree level / an undergraduate qualification.
  • A teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience in the use and development of VLEs.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel.
  • Friendly disposition with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication, grammar and proofing skills.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly organised and able to implement processes and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Reliable with excellent time keeping and time management.
  • Knowledge and interest in music, preferably as an active musician.
  • Experience in teaching is desirable but not mandatory
