Full job description

Come and join our passionate team at Wider Ambition, where staff at our beautiful, well-resourced specialist settings make a life-changing difference for students.

Our students are unlikely to display challenging behaviour but are unable to access mainstream school due to autism, anxiety or sensory needs. Students will be academically able but may have gaps in their knowledge. Our approach is highly personalised to meet each student's needs. Group sizes range from 1:1 up to classes of 6, with a minimum staffing ratio of 1:3.

We are looking for a Music teacher with Qualified teacher Status (drama and dance desirable), who is comfortable supporting students with a range of instruments (including digital and voice) and who is willing to work across our three Worcestershire sites - Lokrum Fields, Chestnut Place and Sunbrae. Travelling time between the sites is treated as paid time and mileage expenses are also paid.

Our younger students access Music teaching in small groups as part of the KS2/KS3 curriculum. Some of our students additionally like to access individual music tuition and learn notation, while others like to explore digital music or instruments individually in a therapeutic way. We do not currently have any students accessing GCSE Music but it is possible that teaching this could form part of the role in future.

Our requirement for Music teaching currently amounts to a part-time position (2-3 days per week) and we anticipate there would be opportunities for additional hours, by mutual agreement, as our student numbers continue to grow. We are open to employing the successful candidate in a full-time role if they have other skills which fit our needs. Please state on the application form if you would like to be considered for a full-time position.

An attitude of continuously reflecting on and improving your practice and a willingness to learn from ongoing training, from interacting with our therapeutic team and from colleagues and parents is essential. Previous experience and skills associated with working with young people with autism and anxiety are desirable.

We pay competitive salaries which are closely aligned with the national teacher payscales and which honour previous experience. Staff additionally receive a 1.5% benefits allowance and a 17.5% employer pension contribution. Staff wellbeing is a priority, with our full-time salaries reflecting a realistic 37.5 hour working week, facilitating a healthy work/life balance.

Applications will be processed in line with our Safer Recruitment policy and will be subject to safeguarding checks. Online searches may be used to inform our view of the suitability of short-listed candidates. We require applications via a form which can be found at the following address: https://widerambition.org/vacancies/

Please note we are unable to support applications from overseas candidates who require a visa to work in the UK.
