Job description

Sheffield Music Hub (service) is delighted to be recruiting a number of additional salaried Music Tutor roles across a range of musical instruments and genres. We are seeking experienced musicians / music educators to help develop our award winning programme even further. We are striving to be a diverse and inclusive organisation and welcome a broad range of applications.

As a Hub we are ambitious to be the very best ensuring we reach Children and Young people in all corners of our city enabling them to progress to the highest possible level.

Our Music Tutors are dedicated Music Education Professionals and you will be joining an exceptional team of educators. Our music education offer is exploding and you will be joining at an exciting time where you will be able to contribute to the development of some very exciting inclusion and progression opportunities for our young musicians.

Tutors will be expected to deliver a mixture of work from specialist lessons to whole class teaching and ensemble directing.

This portfolio of work occurs during the school day with some activities happening outside of this period including the potential for evening work.

The role sits within a term time only 39 week contract so the salary range is pro-rata accordingly

These exciting additional roles are in response to huge demand for provision and we are delighted to be growing our team.

We are seeking 9 new tutors across the following skill range:

Drums

Piano / Keys

Rap and production

Vocal / singing

Woodwind

Guitar

Roles will be between 1 and 4 days per week depending on demand – and will be arranged between successful applicants and the Music Hub.

Please contact Ian Naylor, Head of Music Education Sheffield ian.naylor@sheffield.gov.uk for further details about the number of days available for each of the instruments / genres listed before applying.

Timeline:

Tuesday 3rd November – applications close

Thursday 26 and Friday 27th November – interviews

Roles to commence in the new calendar year – Jan / Feb subject to pre recruitment checks.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Guaranteed Interview scheme, applicants who are disabled, care leavers, or armed forces veterans will be guaranteed an interview if they meet the essential criteria and indicate their eligibility on the application form. Sometimes, if lots of people apply, we might not be able to interview everyone who qualifies for the Guarantee. In these cases, we’ll interview the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Equality of pay is extremely important to us. All roles at Sheffield City Council are going through an evaluation process which may result in changes to some pay arrangements from 2026. Find out more on our Sheff news page.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all individuals, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone and where appropriate to the role the successful applicant will be required to undertake relevant safeguarding checks.
