For Peripatetic Piano and Singing Teacher
Post: Piano and Singing Teacher (Self-employed peripatetic teacher)
Responsible to: Headmaster/Director of Music
Job purpose: Teaching of Piano and Singing across the Prep school age range
You will be joining a team of 11 peripatetic music teachers who work closely with the Director of Music and parents to promote music in the school, with responsibility to
- Teach stimulating and challenging lessons, according to the timetable, that bring out the best in pupils at any stage of their musical development, from beginner level to the most advanced pupils who wish to pursue musical studies.
● Be aware of the need to differentiate work and set challenges according to the ability of the pupils, whilst maintaining high expectations of all and taking full account of any Special Educational Needs.
● Prepare pupils for exams, concerts and performances as appropriate.
● Monitor, record and report on pupils’ progress, including weekly feedback in a music notebook and full reports, twice a year, and attending one parents’ meeting per year.
● Work as part of a team, in harmony with and for the furtherance of the school’s ethos and declared educational aims and priorities (including attending INSET meetings when required).
● Attend concerts in which your pupils perform (when possible)
● Be a good role model and demonstrate high standards to pupils.
Person Specification
Qualifications
● Diploma/music degree
● Professional teaching qualification
Experience
● Previous experience of teaching 7 - 13-year-old children
● Experience of teaching in a range of musical styles
● Experience of preparing children for music exams
● Experience in leading ensembles
Skills/Knowledge/Expertise
● Good working knowledge of current pedagogy
● Exemplary written communication skills
● Excellent organisational and IT skills
● Excellent oral communication skills, especially in relation to staff, pupils and parents
● Ability to adapt to changing situations
Personal qualities
● A ‘team’ player with ability to work flexibly as part of a diverse team

About the school:
Beeston Hall School aims to provide boys and girls aged 4 – 13 with the best possible education. The school is set in 30 acres on the North Norfolk coast, 600 metres from the sea and surrounded by 700 acres of National Trust land. There are excellent educational facilities, a Library, a Music School, an Art Centre, an ICT room, a D & T Centre, an indoor Shooting Range, Sports Hall, a Swimming Pool, full size Astroturf, floodlit all-weather area and extensive playing fields. The school has 172 pupils, of whom 40 are full or weekly boarders, with some younger flexi-boarders. All pupils have access to technology (from Year 5 up their own Chromebooks) and are encouraged to take part in a wide and exciting range of extra-curricular activities such as shooting, cooking, chess, sailing, ballet, extra drama, roller hockey, surfing, and camp craft. Children are prepared for entry to a wide variety of boarding Public Schools through either Scholarship or Common Entrance.
The school has just embarked on a considerable investment and redevelopment programme for the Music School which should be completed by mid-2025.
