At our NCHA supported living service in Shepshed, Leicestershire, you’ll support adults with complex mental health needs to build independence, stability and confidence in their everyday lives. This is a long-term supported living service, where trust, consistency and meaningful relationships are developed over time.
This is a fast-paced, rewarding and emotionally intelligent role where teamwork, resilience and values matter just as much as experience.
Please note, the service is based in Shepshed with limited public transport. Access to your own transport is desirable.
Working Hours & Shifts
This is not a 9–5 role. You’ll work flexible shifts across weekdays and weekends, including:
- 8:00am – 3:00pm
- 8:00am – 4:00pm
- 10:00am – 6:00pm
- 2:00pm – 9:30pm
What you’ll be doing
No two days are ever the same, but your role will include:
- Supporting individuals with complex mental health needs in a person-centred way
- Helping people to develop independence and daily living skills
- Supporting with routines such as medication, appointments and daily structure
- Offering practical support with cooking, cleaning, budgeting and maintaining a tenancy
- Encouraging emotional wellbeing, confidence and positive coping strategies
- Following, reviewing and contributing to risk assessments and support plans
- Working alongside multi-agency professionals, families and wider support networks
- Maintaining accurate records and following policies, safeguarding and legislation
- Supporting individuals to reduce dependency on substances where appropriate
- Responding calmly and professionally during periods of emotional distress
What really matters in this role is working as part of a consistent, supportive team; communication, debriefing and peer support are fundamental to how the service operates.
Consistency, clear boundaries and emotional awareness are essential, particularly when supporting individuals experiencing distress. You’ll need to stay calm under pressure, prioritise effectively and maintain a professional, compassionate approach throughout your shift.
Equally important is your own wellbeing, knowing how to switch off at the end of the day is key to sustaining a long and fulfilling career in support work.
The rewarding moments you’ll value
- Seeing individuals take steps towards independent living
- Building trust and forming meaningful relationships
- Supporting people through challenges and celebrating progress
- Helping individuals feel safe, stable and in control of their lives
- Developing your own resilience, communication and confidence
What you’ll bring with you
You don’t need to know everything, but you do need the right mindset.
You’ll have:
- Compassion and a genuine belief in recovery and independence
- Confidence supporting people with mental health needs
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Resilience, patience and emotional intelligence
- A proactive and solution-focused approach
- The ability to remain calm, professional and empathetic under pressure
- Good organisational skills and confidence with record keeping
- An understanding of safeguarding and vulnerable adults
A driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.
