About the role
Asset Protection Scheme Interface Manager
Connect external investment with Britain's railway infrastructure.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Asset Protection Scheme Interface Manager to join our Asset Protection & Optimisation (ASPRO) team.
This is a rewarding role at the heart of project delivery, where you'll work with external clients, developers, local authorities and industry partners to ensure externally funded projects are safely and effectively integrated into the operational railway. You'll use your technical knowledge, stakeholder management skills and project delivery expertise to support successful outcomes while protecting the safety, performance and integrity of the rail network.

About the Role
As an Asset Protection Scheme Interface Manager, you will safely and seamlessly integrate externally funded projects into the railway environment whilst minimising impacts on railway operations and operational infrastructure.
You will leverage your knowledge and understanding of rail-related risks, standards and constraints to develop solutions that align with client objectives while meeting the needs of Network Rail and wider stakeholders. Acting as a key interface between clients and the railway, you will provide guidance and support to help external parties navigate Network Rail and industry processes, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and compliantly.
This role offers exposure to a wide variety of high-profile and complex projects, presenting excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver solutions for externally funded, high-value, politically sensitive and multi-disciplinary projects and, where mandated, assure delivery in accordance with the PACE lifecycle. Manage the seamless integration of all project risks affecting the operational railway.
- Engage with and manage the interface with internal stakeholders to enable compliance with Network Rail governance and assurance processes. Facilitate compliance against the Railways Act and Network Licence and oversee the completion of deliverables.
- Interrogate the client remit and programme and provide clarity of operational railway interface requirements, devising solutions that enable early and informed decision-making.
- Liaise with Construction Design Management (CDM) Clients and other duty holders to establish principles for project compliance with CDM Regulations.
- Support the Network Rail interface with projects to secure and allocate resources and assure project delivery is undertaken in accordance with Network Rail processes and procedures. Assist with communicating progress against defined milestones and implementing contingency measures where necessary.
- Assist in facilitating agreement between all parties to identify the organisation acting as proposer for infrastructure changes in accordance with Common Safety Method - Risk Assessment (CSM-RA) Regulations. Monitor and analyse risk and performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review lessons learned and develop mitigation strategies with stakeholders to refine project proposals and support successful delivery.
- Build strong and effective relationships with stakeholders, manage expectations and champion project interests.
- Identify and progress opportunities to reduce Network Rail asset and maintenance liabilities, resolve conflicting works and drive efficiencies.
- Assist in facilitating the full recovery of Network Rail costs in accordance with legal agreements between external parties and Network Rail.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for a talented project professional with strong rail industry knowledge and excellent stakeholder management skills. You'll be collaborative, solutions-focused and confident working across multiple organisations to achieve safe and successful project outcomes.
You'll enjoy building relationships, influencing decision-making and helping clients navigate the complexities of working within a live operational railway environment.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Membership (or working towards membership) Association for Project Management.
- Achieved PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the operational railway and railway infrastructure.
- Demonstrable experience of delivery of projects in the rail environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Team player able to quickly build relationships and share knowledge acquired.
- Demonstrable ability to constructively challenge the ideas of others with good evaluation and decision-making skills.
- Strong understanding of project commercial requirements & programme controls.
- Knowledge of health, safety & environmental requirements and legislation including CDM Regulations and CSM-RA.
- Knowledge and experience of project budget management.
- Knowledge of PACE.
Desirable Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Knowledge of investment, commercial and procurement practices.
- Previous experience working within Asset Protection.
- Understanding of rail infrastructure maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of rail possessions/isolations.
