Full job description

Assistant Café Manager

Location: Clifton Village, BS8

Salary: £13.75 - £14.50

Hours: Daytime hours

About Us

We are Spicer+Cole, a group of four independent, vibrant cafés across Bristol. We keep things simple but do them well. Our cafes are light, welcoming, and well located. We serve the best artisan coffee and loose-leaf tea alongside super-fresh, seasonal food made from scratch in our kitchens every single day. No freezer led microwaved meals here—just real food made by people who care.

The Role

We are looking for an Assistant Manager with infectious enthusiasm, a keen eye for detail, and a genuine love for people & process. You’ll be the heartbeat of the café floor, helping to lead our independently spirited teams.

This is a hands-on role where you get to blend leadership with hospitality.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading the Team: Running shifts, managing the floor, and stepping up to run the show on the Store Manager’s days off.
  • Crafting Coffee: Getting behind the machine to pour high-quality artisan coffee.
  • Behind the Scenes: Handling opening/closing, ordering stock, and ensuring the café is sparkling clean and welcoming.
  • Connecting: Creating memorable experiences for our regular and new customers alike.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Previous supervisory experience in a busy, high-quality hospitality or coffee environment.
  • Barista Skills: You know your way around an espresso machine and care about milk texture and shot extraction.
  • Vibe: Positive energy, great communication skills, and a "lead by example" work ethic.
  • Reliability: Someone trustworthy who takes pride in locking up or opening the doors on time.

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

Today's hospitality industry can be exhausting, but we try to do things differently:

  • Sensible Working Hours: Sensible daytime-led hours with no evenings.
  • Real Career Progression: We don’t want you to stay an Assistant Manager forever (unless you want to!). Our comprehensive training program provides a clear pathway to full Store or Operational Management.
  • A Supportive Culture: We are independently owned and growing. Your voice matters here, and you’ll be working in a positive environment with a great management team.

To Apply

If you’re ready to take the next step, hit apply, attach your CV, and drop us a short note telling us why you’re the perfect fit to be our next Assistant Manager.

Good luck!
