Learning Support Assistant - Year 2
Hackney, E5 (commutable from Homerton, Clapton, Stoke Newington, Dalston, Bethnal Green)
£105-£120 per day

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary

Long Term Futures is recruiting a compassionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with Autism and complex communication needs in a welcoming Hackney primary school.
Although the pupil is in Year 2, they are currently working at approximately Nursery/Reception level and are pre-verbal, requiring a calm, patient and highly nurturing approach. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child's communication, engagement and independence through personalised learning strategies and consistent daily support.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting pupils with ASD, communication needs or complex SEN who is looking to make a genuine difference.

About the Role
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and wider SEND team, you will:
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism and pre-verbal communication needs
  • Deliver learning activities tailored to a Nursery/Reception developmental level
  • Use visual supports, sensory strategies and structured routines to maximise engagement
  • Encourage communication, interaction and independence throughout the school day
  • Support emotional regulation and smooth transitions between activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and parents to implement consistent support strategies
  • Monitor progress and contribute to achieving EHCP outcomes
This role is ideal for someone who understands that progress comes through patience, repetition and positive relationships.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with ASD and complex communication needs
  • Experience working with children functioning below age-related expectations
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other alternative communication strategies is desirable
  • Calm, nurturing and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Committed to a long-term role from September
