NHS GP SURGERY RECEPTIONIST

SOHO SQUARE GENERAL PRACTICE, W1D 3HZ

Full Time 37.5 Hours

Monday to Friday. Working pattern between 08:00 and 18:30

Soho Square General Practice are looking for Receptionist to join our team.

We are located in Frith Street, Soho.

We offer NHS Pension and 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

Main Duties

Our receptionist is the first point of contact for patients, playing a key role in the day-to-day running of our GP surgery. Duties include answering telephone calls, booking and managing appointments, greeting and checking in patients, and contacting patients who are due to be seen. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with excellent written and spoken English, a confident and friendly manner, and a good level of IT literacy. The ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment is essential.

Essential Criteria:

Previous experience in either a GP Practice or customer service role.

Excellent Oral and Written English communication skills

Available for work between 08:00 and 18:30 Monday to Friday

You must be available for work between the practices core hours of 08:00 to 18:30 Monday to Friday as we are looking for flexibility to cover colleagues as required.

Our Organisation

Soho Square General Practice is an NHS GP Practice based in Central London, just off Oxford Street and close to Tottenham Court Road Station.

We currently have a patient population of 6,500 and serve an ethnically diverse urban patient population, including a significant cohort of LGBT+ and of Chinese patient groups.

We offer a friendly and supportive environment and you will gain experience in dealing with a wide range of patient queries and an understanding of NHS primary care.

Job responsibilities

Reception

- Answering telephone calls and dealing with face-to-face enquiries

- Receiving and directing patients and visitors to the Practice

- Keeping accurate records of patients attending and those requiring visits

- Answering general patient enquiries

- Receiving and recording requests for home visits

- Making new and follow-up appointments

- Pulling/filing notes and extracting/making ready patients’ notes for surgeries if required

- Liaising between reception and the Clinicians during surgeries as appropriate

- Act as a Patient Chaperone as and when required

- Receiving and recording messages for Clinicians and other members of Internal Staff as required

Personal

- Be committed to own personal development by maintaining an up to date training record and contributing to the annual review process.

- Effectively manage own time and workload.

- Support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues.

- At all times, to understand and respect the confidentiality and sensitivity of issues to do with patients, their care and treatment.

- To be flexible within reason, to help cover shifts in the event of holiday and sickness

- To inform and consult with Manager regularly throughout the day to enable the efficient operation of Reception and Administrative functions.

You will be required to undertake all other duties that may be reasonably asked of you including supporting the work of the Administration team when required.

Personal Specification

Essential Criteria

- Good oral and written English communication skills

- Good level of IT literacy

- Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent to include Maths and English

- Experience working in a customer/patient facing environment or previous experience in a GP Practice
