Working in partnership with departmental leads and the Governance Team, the Medical Devices Training Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and delivery of medical devices training across Whittington Health NHS Trust, including community sites and partner organisations that procure services from the Trust.

The post holder will ensure that users of medical devices receive appropriate training and competency assessment, enabling the delivery of high-quality patient care in a safe, effective, and efficient manner, in accordance with Trust policies, regulatory requirements, and best practice guidance.

In addition, the Medical Devices Training Coordinator will coordinate technical and basic user training within the Medical Physics Department and support the maintenance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) records for Medical Physics Technologists. The post holder will work under the supervision and direction of the Head of Medical Physics, contributing to the ongoing development of training programmes, competency frameworks, and governance arrangements relating to the safe use of medical devices.

The Medical Devices Training Coordinator will lead and coordinate medical device training across Whittington Health NHS Trust and associated community services. Working with clinical teams, governance colleagues, departmental leads and manufacturers, the post holder will ensure staff are trained and competent in the safe and effective use of medical devices.

The role supports patient safety, regulatory compliance and clinical excellence by maintaining training systems, competency assessments and training records. Responsibilities include identifying training needs, developing competency-based programmes, coordinating training delivery, monitoring compliance and supporting governance reporting.

The post holder will support the Medical Physics Department by coordinating technical and user training, maintaining CPD records for Medical Physics Technologists and contributing to policies, audits and governance activities relating to medical devices.

Reporting to the Head of Medical Physics, the post holder will provide specialist advice and guidance, promote best practice and support continuous improvement in medical device education and competency management.

The Medical Physics Department plays a vital role in supporting clinical services across the Trust, ensuring that medical devices are managed safely, effectively, and in accordance with regulatory requirements. As a Medical Devices Training Coordinator, you will contribute directly to patient safety by supporting staff competency, promoting best practice in medical device use, and helping to ensure that training and governance arrangements meet the needs of our patients, staff, and partner organisations.

To identify training needs relating to the safe and effective use of medical devices and lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programmes to address those needs.

Responsible for undertaking Medical Device Safety Officer (MDSO) duties, including promoting compliance with medical device safety standards, investigating device-related incidents, and supporting the implementation of safety alerts and risk mitigation measures.

To coordinate and facilitate user training that enables staff to operate medical devices safely and effectively, recognise equipment malfunctions, and report faults promptly to the Medical Physics Department in accordance with Trust procedures.

To promote the standardisation and optimisation of medical device training across the Trust, ensuring consistency of practice and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

To establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical device manufacturers and suppliers to support the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and up-to-date training programmes.

To undertake audits and monitoring activities to assess the effectiveness, quality, and compliance of medical device training programmes and recommend improvements where required.

To develop, implement, and review guidelines, procedures, and training frameworks to ensure all relevant staff receive appropriate training and competency assessment in the use of medical devices.

To maintain accurate and comprehensive training records, ensuring training completion, competency assessments, and refresher training requirements are appropriately documented and monitored.

To design, develop, and maintain competency-based training programmes for commonly used medical devices across the Trust.

Where manufacturer-led training programmes are unavailable, to work with the Head of Medical Physics to develop competency-based training packages using manufacturer documentation, guidance, and best practice standards.

To ensure that appropriate training documentation, user guidance, and competency assessment materials are available and maintained for all relevant medical devices within the Trust.

To identify high-risk clinical areas and critical medical devices, prioritising training activities to minimise risk and promote patient safety.

To support wards, departments, and community services in the planning, coordination, and delivery of medical device training.

To provide guidance, support, and advice to departmental key trainers, super users, and link staff involved in the delivery of medical device training.

To maintain a thorough understanding of Trust policies, procedures, and national guidance relating to medical devices, with particular regard to the Trust Medical Devices Training Policy.

To ensure that any practice that does not comply with departmental procedures, Trust policies, or regulatory requirements is escalated appropriately to the Medical Physics Team Leader and/or Head of Medical Physics.
