Cross-Sectional Radiographer (MRI and CT)
Band 6 £43,231- £52,679 per annum
Plus £1,461 Distant Islands Allowance per annum
36 Hours a week

NHS Western Isles is starting a new MRI service in Autumn 2026, with a B7 MRI lead already in place. We are inviting applicants for B6 Radiographer posts to help run the MRI service at Western Isles Hospital. Full time and part time posts will be considered. Candidates should be highly motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic.
The new MRI scanner is a Philips 1.5T Ingenia, with compressed SENSE and ambient package.
The Radiology department is also furnished with DR/CR (Philips/Siemens), Digital Fluoroscopy (Siemens), multislice CT (Canon Prime SP 80), digital OPG, DXA and mobile imaging (Philips II, Philips Digital Mob), alongside a friendly team of support staff, Radiographers and Sonographers.
The department is supported by NHS Borders Radiology department and Consultants.
NHS Highland provide Medical Physics support for radiation protection.
Imaging in the Western Isles is undertaken for a range of specialities Respiratory, Oncology, Urology, Vascular, Orthopaedic, Cardiology, Gynaecology, Paediatrics etc.
We are committed to providing the best care possible to our population applicants should have an understanding of Realistic Medicine and how this impacts Radiology.
The post will be based at the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. There is requirement to undertake on call from home with this post.
There may be the requirement to cover short periods of leave at the Uist and Barra Hospital (UBH) on the Isle of Benbecula. The radiology department at UBH is staffed by one Radiographer, part-time hours. There is an on call from home commitment with this role.
The successful candidate will:
- hold DCR or BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
- experience working in MRI, CT, x-ray and fluoroscopy
- Post Graduate certificate in MRI OR must commence study within first 12 months of commencing post
- have good working experience in a wide range of diagnostic imaging investigations
- have understanding of the specific challenges of remote and rural healthcare delivery
- have proven NHS experience
- hold HCPC registration
