Full job description
Reporting to the Head of Research Contracts, a talented individual is sought to help provide legal advice to Research and Development (R&D) and UCLH Biomedical Research Centre (BRC); prepare and manage a wide range of agreements connected to biomedical research including but not limited to commercial research.
A self-starter, you will have excellent organisational skills with a proven understanding of research management and governance. You will also be pragmatic and have proven ability to communicate effectively with senior clinicians, academic staff and other health service professionals to help deliver this challenging agenda within a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment.
The post holder will be required to maintain a good working relationship and a high level of customer service with R&D and BRC teams as well as external stakeholders.
This is an exciting role to support research at UCLH within a dynamic contracts team what values team work and supporting each other.
1. negotiate and agree contractual and financial terms on commercial contracts with, senior research staff, pharmaceutical companies, Contract Research Organisations (CROs), with appropriate advice and guidance from legal professionals.
2. liaise with investigators, UCLH and UCL service departments and the appropriate costing team to ensure each party understands and agrees to the relevant costing information.
3. liaise with external solicitors to provide specialist legal advice to investigators on their contractual obligations, regulatory issues and research management in the implementation of commercial research policy, e.g. implementation of the EU Clinical Trials Directive, Data Protection Act, UK GDPR, Human Tissue Act, Material Transfer, Intellectual Property
4. identify the appropriate type of contract required for new projects: e.g. consultancy; research funding; data registry; clinical trial; medical device research agreements
5. identify and reduce wherever possible any potential liabilities to the Trust under research and development connected contracts
6. ensure research staff are aware whenever possible of their responsibilities under the agreements and any contractual and/or financial terms relevant to their research
7. provide advice on intellectual property matters as and when required.
8. ensure data protection legislation is followed via research contracts
