Job summary

The Patient Services Team at Wensum Valley Medical Practice is at the forefront of the Practice and we pride ourselves on providing an efficient, courteous, compassionate and caring service to our patients. The successful candidate would ideally have previous experience of working in general practice in a public facing role and have excellent communication skills for effective patient interaction, . Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer care skills are essential with the ability to work independently and also as part of a wider multidisciplinary team together delivering comprehensive patient care. Proven IT skills are essential. We are recruiting someone to cover a maternity leave and work full time hours throughout the week.

Receiving telephone calls, supporting patients to access the care they need and signposting to the right team. Booking patient appointments via the telephone and online triage systems. Processing requests for repeat and acute medication, directing callers through to colleagues and appropriate services at the Practice.

Managing Reception in a professional and welcoming manner. Providing the first point of contact for patients and other visitors presenting at Wensum Valley Medical Practice.

To signpost and schedule patient appointments appropriately according to triage and signposting guidelines and clinical need.

To process appointment requests for today/future appointments from patients by telephone, online and in person using the computerised appointment booking system.

To record requests for home visits and liaise with senior colleagues to appropriately allocate clinicians attending.

To handle in-person/telephone requests for results. To give any instruction as indicated by the Clinician.

To book follow up appointments with the our healthcare professional team to discuss results as instructed by a clinician and in accordance with the practice policy.

Processing requests for repeat and acute medication, received online or in writing using defined protocols.

To make detailed, accurate and legible notes of messages received for other members of the practice team.

Input data onto patient records as required to ensuring that patient information is kept updated. Using the Practices clinical system, SystmOne.

Provide administration support as required.

Liaise with the wider practice team.

Make a positive contribution to team work by attending staff meetings and assisting in effective communication and support with colleagues.

To undertake any other reasonable tasks as allocated by the Practice.

Training and Personal Development

Keep up to date with all mandatory training as required.

Participate in an annual appraisal and regular personal development reviews as required.

Attend appropriate training courses either in-house or outside the practice as required.

Support the Practice policy for training and development through the annual process of appraisal.

Contribution and Commitment to the Practice

Support the aims of ethos of the Practice.

Undertaking any other duties consistent with those listed above and appropriate to the title and grade of the post.

Willing to work flexible hours as necessary.

DBS check will be required.
