Events Assistant

Job Summary
Come and join our Events team, who are involved in recruiting new blood donors at a variety of events, including shopping centres and workplaces. You will be required on an as and when basis working variable hours and days, including weekdays, evenings, weekends and bank holidays with mutual agreement and prior notice.
You don’t need a medical background, we just need you to have experience of working in a customer service environment, which can include in a voluntary capacity. You will assist in setting up and running “What’s Your Blood Type?” events where you will perform blood typing testing for which training will be provided.
It’s best if you live within about 15 miles of where the events happen, since things can move quickly and you might need to travel at short notice (we’ll always give you a heads-up though). Some events happen on weekends, so you’ll need to be available occasionally but don’t worry, it’s not every weekend. We do offer extra pay for weekend shifts, and we’ll cover your travel costs based on our policy.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will work with the marketing team to register and book appointments for new blood donors at a variety of events, including shopping centres and workplaces. You will assist in setting up and running “What’s Your Blood Type?” events where you will perform blood type testing. Your duties at the events will include:
- Collecting event equipment and manually setting up suitable spaces to run the event
- Performing blood sampling (finger prick test) on members of the public in accordance with our procedures to produce a provisional blood group type for demonstration purposes only. Full training is provided.
- Offering information to members of the public on donation in general and specifically in relation to their provisional blood type.
- Providing reports to line manager on numbers of people seen and signed up as donors to continually monitor effectiveness of events.
- Assist in packing away all equipment and returning this to base for safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste.
- Receiving training in basic care/first aid to enable you to respond in cases of adverse reactions.
- Loading, unloading, assembling and dismantling equipment on a daily basis, including heavy objects of up to 13 kgs.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of working in a customer service environment (including in a voluntary capacity) is essential.
Qualifications and Training
- Educated to GCSE, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification OR equivalent experience is essential
- Comfortable with performing clinical “What’s Your Blood Type” tests with full training.
