Hostelling International Belfast – Full Time Receptionists (Over night staff) February 2026

Thank you for your interest in Hostelling International Northern Ireland (HINI) and our ‘Hostel Receptionist Overnight (Belfast)’ vacancy. The successful candidate will be committed, ambitious and experienced, and support the work of the Hostel Manager/Assistant Manager and staff team in the day-to-day operations at Hostelling International Belfast.

To do this effectively we are looking for a full-time Hostel Receptionist, with excellent skills ready to take their next step.

The Hostel Receptionist will join the organisation at an exciting time as we work to modernise our business and enhance awareness of our brand in Northern Ireland and further afield.

1. Hostel Receptionist Full-time Night Shift (Belfast) – Job Description

Job Title Hostel Receptionist (Belfast Hostel)

Responsible To Hostel Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in an organisation that provides experiences and opportunities through hostelling

Purpose of Role The Hostel Receptionist will support the work of the Hostel Manager / Assistant Manager and staff team on day-to-day operations within the Belfast Hostel.

Main Accountabilities

Responding to hostel guests and perspective customers in person, by telephone, email, and online activity and supporting the work of the Manager/Assistant Manager in day-to-day operations of the Hostel.

  • Welcoming guests and checking their details against their bookings, taking messages, and delivering them.
  • Allocating guests rooms and provision of keys.
  • Operation of HINI’s computerised booking system, working with bookings.com and hostelworld.com.
  • Completing administrative tasks including recording post/mail, filing and photocopying, maintaining administrative records including health and safety reports.
  • Responding to requests for help and information from customers.
  • Preparing room bills and ensuring prompt payments for customers.
  • Checking guests out, taking payments and returning deposits to customers.
  • Working directly with the Fire Marshall on site, including all tasks associated with
  • Health & Safety.
  • Comply with all HINI policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties and tasks assigned by management

4. Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in customer service and engaging with potential customers and guests.
  • Experience of booking systems and completion of administrative tasks as assigned by the Manager.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace.
  • Experience in requests for help and information from customers.
  • Comply with all HINI policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties and tasks assigned by the Manager.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the hospitality, retail sector or equivalent.

6. Terms and Conditions of Employment

1. Salary set at £12.21 per hour 32-40 hours per week and 12-month probationary period.

2. Annual Leave based on pro rata basis including statutory holidays.

3. Core contracted hours: 32 - 40 hours per week Monday to Sunday based on a night shift basis.

4. Location – The role is based at Hostelling International Belfast, 22 Donegall Road, Belfast, BT12 5JN.
