Sous Chef / Pizza Chef – Mercato Pizza Co, Chester

We’re looking for an experienced chef to join our small team at Mercato Pizza Co inside Chester Market.

This isn’t a standard pizza-chain job. We make our food fresh in-house, specialise in Neapolitan-style pizza and regularly develop new dishes and monthly specials.

We’re looking for somebody who enjoys cooking properly, can handle a busy service and is ready to take some responsibility within the kitchen.

The package

  • £15.00–£17.00 per hour depending on experience
  • 40–45 hours per week
  • 3–4 days/nights off each week

The role

You’ll work alongside our Head Chef and the rest of our small kitchen team, preparing fresh food and producing our Neapolitan-style pizzas during service.

You’ll also be capable of taking charge of the kitchen when the Head Chef is off.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and cooking Neapolitan-style pizzas
  • Fresh food preparation
  • Running busy services
  • Maintaining food quality and consistency
  • Helping train and supervise other kitchen staff
  • Stock control and food production planning
  • Maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen standards
  • Contributing ideas for specials and menu development
  • Leading the kitchen when required

Who we’re looking for

You don’t necessarily need to have held the title of Sous Chef before.

We’re more interested in finding an experienced, reliable chef who can cook, work at pace and wants to become an important part of a small team.

Previous pizza experience is highly desirable, particularly experience with Neapolitan-style pizza, although we’d consider a strong chef with the right background and attitude.

You’ll need to be:

  • Experienced in a professional kitchen
  • Comfortable working during busy services
  • Reliable and organised
  • Confident working as part of a small team
  • Able to maintain high standards without constant supervision
  • Eligible to work in the UK

We’re an independent business operating from Chester Market. We’re a small, friendly team within the larger market community, and we’re looking for somebody who wants to become a long-term part of what we’re building.
