Job Overview
We are looking for committed and reliable Waking Night Residential Support Workers to join our team, supporting children and young people in a residential care setting.
This role is night-focused (9:30pm – 7:30am) and requires individuals who are comfortable working waking nights, remaining vigilant, responsive, and proactive throughout the shift. We are ideally seeking full-time staff, but are also open to part-time and bank workers.
You will play a key role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and stability of our young people overnight, including those with learning disabilities (LD). While LD experience is highly valued, it is not essential, what matters most is your commitment, resilience, and passion for making a difference.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing active overnight support, ensuring the safety and welfare of children at all times
- Monitoring young people throughout the night and responding appropriately to needs or incidents
- Supporting emotional well-being, offering reassurance during the night where required
- Completing regular checks and maintaining a calm, secure environment
- Accurately recording observations, incidents, and updates in line with policies
- Supporting morning routines where needed (e.g., preparing for school/appointments)
- Working closely with the wider team to maintain continuity of care and effective handovers
- Helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming home environment
What We’re Looking For
- This is a waking night position (9:30pm – 7:30am) — applicants must be able to commit to overnight working
- Flexibility to work across weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays is desired
- Experience working with children in a residential setting (essential)
- Experience supporting children with learning disabilities (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to stay alert and engaged throughout waking night shifts
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm, resilient approach with the ability to respond to challenging situations
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- IT literacy for reporting and communication
- Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards it
